Type 26 frigate
3D printed

Escala:
1:700
Status:
Concluído
Tempo gasto:
5 hours

First attempt at building a type 26 frigate from a bought 3D print. Needed to replace some of the finer detail with items from the spares box. Similarly with decals. Brasswork was just generic railings and tubes.
This base model cost about €30 - you can pay more to get higher resolution prints that would require less aftermarket additions.
The plastic is quite absorbant, so needs a number of paint coats. Some of the printer layering is still visible on vertical surfaces.
In summary - comparable in price and quality with resin ships at this scale. Shapeways also do other ships which cannot otherwise be bought.

Very interesting, would be great to hear more about your experience with this type of modelling. We hear more and more about 3D printing so any commentary is interesting
