If I may recommend - I observed you fancy re-purposing everyday objects for scratch parts - have a look at used PC/Mobile-phone parts - metal, cable, lenses and all kind of good stuff and creative input to be found there... I use old PC cables all the time and mobile-phone lenses/parts for HUD, Optical missile guidance systems and IRST sensors and they do look rather fine in such roles😉
