I would love to learn more about your techniques, if you have time to explain them.

Thanks Mark! There are no secrets, but there is a "language barrier". I will not be able to explain in clear terms that are accepted in among English-speaking modelers( But we can try)))

Mark ask questions, I will try to give a detailed answer.

Dmitry: I do have many questions. To start: (1) what paint do you use? (2) how do you achieve the varied tones on, for example, the gun shield? (3) are the detail parts that you add scratchbuilt?

Mark, I will answer in order!
(1) i use Tamiya acrylic as a base and the subsequent selection of individual areas with a light tone of the base paint. The base layer of dirt and dust is also made with Tamiya acrylic, diluted with a solvent to a translucent state. The resulting result is fixed with a semi-matt varnish. Тhe varnish is necessary in order not to affect the previous layers of paint. This work is entirely carried out with an airbrush! So I get a blank for subsequent creative work)))

(2) Then I use a method that artists call "Lasierung". To do this, I use oil paint in several colors. It's mostly White, Black, Siena, Ochre, and Umbra. This is the usual paint that painters use for their paintings. The paint is applied in translucent layers and shaded with a solvent for oil paints. Additionally, I highlight the recesses and protruding parts of various elements. The resulting result is fixed with a matt varnish.

Now comes the time for metallics and chipped. I like to do it with Mr. Hobby paint. You can also fix some errors of the previous stages. To do this, I use thin brushes. Sometimes you can add more "dust and dirt". The resulting result is fixed with a semi-matt varnish. I select the places of wiping with a pencil lead HB.

(3) Yes, I try to make additional details from scratch. Many small parts are very easy to make with your own hands from plastic or metal. I rarely use a resin kit and photo-etched parts. These ready-made add-ons required where required conversion or serious error correction model maker

So now we can try and see...
I am sure many eons of practice will be necessary to reach Dmitry's level.

Olivier, there is an old Russian saying "Глаза боятся, а руки делают!". This can be translated as "You never know what you can do till you try"
