Beautiful! I remember the car from Accolade's Test Drive II.

Thanks mates! In Test Drive 2 there was a F40 too i think. As a kid i Could Never decide wich car i liked most: the 959 to the F40. Still some of my all time favourites...

I think the 959, despite being, well, german 🙂, looks much more better, more beautiful compared to the F40. Both great cars obviously!

Looks great!
How did you make a "soft touch" surfaces in the interior?

Dennis
Thats flocking Material from Scale production. Actually very Fine Fibres. You can get it in different colors. It can be applied with an tea strainer on simple wood glue or clear (Tamiya lp9) or actually wet color.

Awesome paintjob - allover!

Whohoo! Look at the picture used for your project: the guy behind the wheel is Walter Röhrl 🙂 Professional Rallye Champion and since his end of his career, he is the man at Porsche. I think the most expensive test driver at all times 😄 He turned 70 in 2017. Google him and read his quotes and comments. He is such a cool guy. I think he is most known for "Fährst Du quer, siehst Du mehr" - "Are you going across, you see more"

Thank you Christian. The picture with Mr. Röhrl behind the wheel was actually the reason for the choice of Color combination (body + rims) for this build. I just do not have the correct decals for the license plate for the actual car showed on the picture (waiting for them). They can be changed easily. When done this 959 will fit my growing collection of Walter röhrl cars perfect 😉

BTW. Back in the day when one purchased a Factory new 959 Porsche also gave the new happy owner a VHS-video tape with instructions for the car. Now Guess who the person was who explained the car in the video 😉

Great looking build Dennis
I have this in the stash and have kinda' punked
out building it, because I couldn't figure out how to do the spoiler,
but I've seen how you did yours and got it figured out.
No other way to do it.
I always figured, if I put the whole together and painted
it, it would create a problem trying to paint it. Vortex?
Too far ahead myself I suppose.
Very good.

@ Christian W I took your advice and read a bit
on Walter. Extremely interesting career. A lifetime
of building projects right there.

Thank you Peppy! Rear wing was a pain: i spend four times with filling, sandig, priming. Still it is not perfect but there are limits of reaching all areas with sanding paper/sponge.
In the end it turned out ok. Don`t know what Tamiya-san was thinking, they could have done much easier...
Painting was also quite dificult. When you look closely you can see that i could not polish the area under the wing.

Mr. Röhrl was once suppused to drive the works Audi A4 in ITC (if i remind correctly). But he refused with the words "screw this! my private car has more horsepower than this!" He also used to say "a car is only fast enough when you are in fear to unlock the door of it in the morning". Real iconic guy...

Yes. The last sentence is in my mind too.

The combination with the colors is very nice. I'll check your albums now 😄

My brother and I met Mr. Röhrl some day on an exhibit in Stuttgart. It must have been 2008-2012 or so. I can't remember the year. My brother was so excited. He saw him and got nervous immeditally and I had to force him, to get an autogram of him. I think it was one of his best moment in life 🙂

@Peppy ... 🙂 It was a big deal and in every news in Germany, when he turned 70. I never thought, that he is that old. Now I recognize: he was always and is still here, when I grew up.

So lovely, beautiful finish👍 Built one too 10 years ago (also this color) Vividly remember the pain in the a** with the rear wing/hood transition.

Thank you. To be honest: I've found your build on modellversium and used it as a reverence 😉

Onther strange thing on this Kit: there is a fitting issue between Body and Chassis. When fittet together, Body sits like 1,5mm to far ahead. That way wheels and inner wheelarches ar also to far ahead.
You can see that, especially on the rear inner wheelarches, on almost every build kit you find pictures of in the web.
Could not figure out where the problem is. First i thought about the exhaust but there is enough room for it. Maybe it is the main chassis part that does not fit properly at all...

The Chassis issue has bothered me too, you see it also clearly in the pictures on my MV article.

BTW, what kind of clear coat did you use?
4 May 2021, 11:42
Dennis
Lets hope we see an up to date Kit of the 959 in the future.

Ah, Clear Cote:
I tried something new by using Gunze Mr. Super Clear applied directly from the Rattlecan.
Works as well as Tamiya Sprays but is very "mild" compared to Tamiya TS-13 and will not eat up decals.
Came out very smooth with almost no orange peal (special tip: shake well and put the rattlecan in warm water for a couple of minutes before use).
Mr super clear is softer then 2k Clear when dried up so one have to be a bit more careful when polishing.

Man, Dennis, you nailed your iconic 959 with red/white wheels. It is exactly the colors I would choose today (not only because of the legend behind the wheel especially on this one).
It looks great.
I can't remember the issues with the rear hood and chassis as I build mine decades ago.

Thanks Dominik 👍🏽 In the meantime I also changed the license plates to achieve more „historical correctness" 🤪 I will add some uptdated pictures…
