CH-47D Chinnok

Simple enough construction staging beginning with the cockpit. 

Seats and control sticks fit well. 

The instrument bay offers some opportunity for scratch building and adding detail - but not for me at this scale! 

I closed the doors which may not have been appropriate for my intended display. I was advised by modelers from arcair who know, that while sling loading, someone is staged at various positions to observe the load. Be careful of your unrealistic plans. 😉 

Using Tamiya Extra Thin makes for a good clean seal. The windows I'll add later with appropriate masking. 

There is a great aftermarket interior kit that is regretfully out of my scope for this project. So I worked in my Microsoft platforms to design blankets that mount to the ceiling. 

I shot the whole interior and exterior with primer to prepare for painting.  

The engine pods constructed and sanded down. I'll hit them with another primer coat to make sure I got the seams erased 

Next came the tail ramp. 

Test fitting. I used shading to simulate weathering seen in reference photos. 

Ready for interior work - and then my air compressor died. 

I have the length right, based on a little research and a little guess work. But the width is wrong. 

I used a wash to outline the deck runners. I doesn't look great, but once its inside the helicopter, all will be good. 

Assembly of the fuselage and sanding down the seams. I needed to use tape in the area where I was sanding to prevent losing details. 

The compound angles aren't too bad to sand out. 

Engine assemblies fit fairly easily. I'm going to leave the filters off until final assembly.
