Very nice pit & engine and the shiny coat too! 👍 the surface had to be in pristine condition for this level of mirror-polish!

no doubt about that 🙂

Thanks for the feedback guys

@Slavo - to be honest it's my first kit that I'm going for a NMF. Gave it a first try last week but the end result was a dull silver finish with the same paint, my fault as i used a mr surfacer as primer…so i stripped it off completely, polished the surface all over and went for a glossy black primer the second time round polishing the primer before final finish.

Happier with the end result though i know there is room for much improvement and learnt quite a lot from this build, particularly with regards to surface prep when going for this kind of finish 🙂

@FlightLine - AK are my go to nowadays…i find them forgiving and very durable, although with this specific finish have to be careful with handling. As primer, i used the same AKs black primer gloss primer, though any other glossy finish should work.

Beautiful so far. I'm on. Question: shouldn't the inside of the engine cowling be zinc chromate?

Ludwig Micallef
Thank you your kind comments Karl, Robert, Guy, Ben & Michael!!

@Michael - that was my initial impression and what the instructions say, however following some research it seems the engine cowl was left bare metal, and it tended to change a bit colour due to engine heat.

Progressing with decals at the moment and uploaded some photos with further updates.

I've been watching this come together and I am very impressed the paint brilliance. Now that the markings are going on it's even better. Watching with anticipation as to what the weathering will bring. 👍

Gorgeous job on the finish. Was that done using alclad?

Many thanks for your comments guys!

@Tom - I used AK's Xtreme Metal range - similar but gives more coverage and feels more durable although the Polished Aluminium was fighting me along the way
