Nah, thought I'd slice them in half and do a wall display similar to Picard's ready room... 🤔

I do rather well with the Charity Shops in the town that I work, but as I am WFH, no opportunity to go. Local Charity shops NEVER have kits, I think we have a sizable local modelling community, as we have an annual Model Show in the town (Really a large village) and it is always packed out

Here's a tip, explore antique shops, I've found lots of kits there..
This is such a unique kit, I might just leave it alone.
There's a scene in Star Trek First contact, that has a display of gold plated ships that I really like: getyarn.io/yarn-clip..08-a377-36b511d0dc74

I have the original un plated tucked away in the loft somewhere. But I've only seen the Base & 1701-D recently

I also have the adversary set, the Warbird is looking good, but the Bird of Prey and Ferengi are looking shabby

Antique shops are a dieing breed in Australia.
Along with Hobby shops, Numismatic shops.
I either have to buy online or go without.
Even the big Model and Toy fair in Adelaide hardly has any kits.
The only reason I can go to that one is because I have family in Adelaide.
I can't go specifically to a Model swap meet because of the hundreds of kilometres driving there and back consume my money for fuel

JD, I know the kind, and I often browse the ones I come across in the USA, but usually end up with other cool stuff than kits.

In the UK "Antique" Shops are selling fine Furniture and overpriced glassware. And generally no good for such things as "Toys" unless it's made by Dinky or Steiff

We have 5 or more Charity shops on every High Street (Main street) all their stock is donated (and we don't get to claim it on taxes either), the prices are dirt cheap, but you get whatever the volunteers consider saleworthy, sometimes that means the kind of stuff we'd be looking for may even end in the trash. Some of these shops can actually be a bit snobby.

In my home town, I don't find a lot in the charity shops, but where I work, I have a 50% hit rate in that town's charity shops.

"Second hand" stores are a thing of the past here, pushed out by ebay and cheap shipping.

I have to say though UK ebay is pretty good. I tend to get what I want if I am prepared to wait for it to come up

Also estate sales, swap meets, garage sales, flea-markets, yard sales, to name a few sources, but I won't give away all my secret watering holes! I have to say that finding my first kit back in 2017 and scavenging kits here and there was and is is a big part of the fun, and my return to modeling. 😄

After CV19, I might try Car Boot Sales (Swap Meets), again, local flea markets are a bust, mainly Bongs and incense, estate sales generally go to auction or charity shops and we don't got the weather for Yard sales really, the occasional Garage Sale. Trouble with Car Boot sales, the Dealers all get in there first thing while people are setting up and snag all the good stuff.

Chaz, then become a "Dealer" print up some business cards.
No such thing as car boot sales in Australia, well not that I know of.
Where I live Estate sales are farm equipment or cars, there's household stuff but farm kids don't often get toys from what I've seen.
eBay is the best bet.
Save a search and hope you're first

Weird this thread doesn't show up with the Science Fiction or Star Trek filters. What's up with that, Tim?
2 July 2020, 01:57

maybe because in order to do that, there has to be a model associated to the album... and currently there is none😉
2 July 2020, 08:05
Chaz Gordon
Correct, There is no Project associated and hence no Kit link, It's just some guys chatting about shop finds.

Wilky, would that it were so simple, the "Dealers" are paying stall holders who trawl through the public sellers before the general public are allowed in, It's a general bone of contention about the format, a lot of public sellers won't sell to them, but so many do that it's ruined the fun of car boot sales.

Yeah, the money hungry always spoil it for us genuine enthusiasts

Starbase101
Okay, I guess I presumed there was an associated project since the photos in the album are of a model kit and this thread's first few posts are related to the specific kit. That's one downside to filtered Newsfeed views.

uhhhhh...

So I would need to create a new project with this kit if I want it to be categorized and searchable. My Time machine build too is only viewable when both sci-fi and movies, or vehicles, filters are checked, because it's just another album getting lost in the feed... 🤔

Starbase101
Would be nice if a photo album could be linked to a topic, say reference photos being shared and there is no "project" created to link them to. Then when viewing the topic you'd see non-project albums related to that topic. Just an idea.
