Sopwith Camel

The CDL underside was started with a coat of white on the ribs and then covered with Tamiya 2mm pin striping tape. 2mm was just the right width to cover the tapes. 

A thinned coat of XF-52 Flat earth was sprayed along the ribs just wide enough to slightly overlap the rib tape. 

This was followed with a coat of XF-55 Deck Tan to cover the white between the ribs. When the paint was dried the 2mm tape was removed. 

Finally another thinned coat of XF-55 was applied with the intent of slightly covering the white tape, but still light enough to let the brown bleed through. This was the first time trying the CDL technique that I've seen others demonstrate on Scalemates and it was fairly straightforward. 

The Wingnut Wings fit together nicely and are a thing of beauty. 

The cockpit interior was enhanced a little with the addition of the Barracuda studios resin set, GasPatch turnbuckles and Albion Alloys tubing. Unfortunately a lot of this will be covered up later. I added a HGW seatbelt later. 

Many other folk's build logs say to build and finish the kit in sub-assemblies. This seems to be working so far. 

 

 

I'm replicating the late RAF rigging using Albion Alloys NST05 tubing and .5mm RB Motion nuts.  

Trying to rig up as much as possible before the upper wing is attached. I'll spend some time weathering before then as well. 

Just about completed the rigging. I used the Infini Aero rigging with Albion Alloys NST05 and a .5mm nut to replicate the late war British rigging. 

The turnbuckles on the elevator and rudder are GasPatch 1/48 turnbuckles.
