I need to build a flogger, what's the kit like ?

Hi Arif, thanks for the like ? not wanting to sound sycophantic, but looking at your previous builds, I'd suggest for you no problem at all. It's a pretty straightforward kit.

I'm still on a learning curve using cheap kits I've sourced from car boots and EB whilst attempting to relive my youth! I'd say kit went together pretty easy, just my usual mucking up of air intakes etc...

I think they're quite decent vintage kits the Hobbycraft ones obvs raised panel lines etc...

Thanks for asking my opinion. ?

Hi Arif. Thanks for taking time to feedback, really appreciate it and kind of you to comment ? still on a learning curve with weathering and washes, how they behave etc. I even attempted some rescribing on the raised panel lines on this kit (gulp!) mucked it up obviously! Ha! Ha! But hey onwards and upwards! ?

Don't get me started on scribing, absolutely hate it and I don't think I'll ever master it but hey everyday is a school day !

That's a great result from a pretty rough kit. Love the camouflage scheme. 👍

Excellent work on the surface treatment of the model 👍.

This set is good as a teaching aid. But this kit is not suitable for building a model that corresponds to reality. The set has many shape errors and their repair is very laborious. For example, the bow is very short and has a bad shape, the glass cover of the cockpit is too wide and the windshield has a completely different shape, the centerplane is also inaccurate in shape ... you know for sure. But as you write, this kit is good as an aid to trying different procedures when building a model 🙂 🙂
Také mám rád tyto staré stavebnice. I really enjoy working on their modifications. Some of my model modifications are almost scratch building. So I know very well what it's like to build a nice model from an old kit. I wish you a lot of patience and a lot of fun building other models. 🙂

Hi Ludvik, Thanks very much for your comments 🙂

I agree, the kit being a vintage one and by this manufacturer is not particularly accurate. Especially when accuracy is compared to the modern kits that are available. However, a vintage build brings it's own complications and challenges in attempting to build something comparable to the more modern kits in look and that is my aim. 🙂

I enjoy the surface treatment part of a build the most. As for me modelling is more about the finish than the build/construction, as my bio says - call my efforts artistic interpretations of the real thing. I wouldn't attempt what many of these guys can do, it's truly wonderous what they can build.

Best to you also Ludvik 🙂 👍

Very nice Flogger! I love how you realised panel lines and other weathering effect. I have the same kit in the pipeline, your same approach. Doing vintage kits to improve my techniques. I wish to make a 50% of what you get from this kit! Awesome.

Question: which colors did you used for the camo?
26 March 2022, 16:35
Neil
Hi Fabio73 🙂 very kind of you to comment/like. 👍 Yes, I too think there is life in these vintage kits; albeit they're not as slick as the new ones. I believe they have a charm of their own.

I'll keep a look out for your build too when it's on the bench, I'm sure you'll do a sterling job 👍

I used a selection of paints, but the main basis used there was Vallejo Soviet/Russian colors tactical schemes 1978-1989 (part II) Art. 71.608. I tend to go my own way in paint a bit 😉 so take my schemes completed as having a basis in reality with a dollop of 'what if' 😁

Album info

Hi there,

Thanks for stopping by to view my latest build #27 the Mig-27 Flogger.

I build straight 'out-of-the-box' endeavouring to show the build journey in as few photographs as possible - this is my reason for utilising montage imagery to help reduce the image count of an album.

Kit appraisal: As a vintage builder who doesn't use after-market parts, I can't use something newer and more recently manufactured to make an old kit look better. Therefore I'm always hoping for a smooth build and I find that Hobbycraft kits tend to go together pretty well. In my experience they don't feature a lot of flash or machine injection holes etc. Of course they will be seriously wide of the mark in terms of reality compared to today, but this was an enjoyable build nonetheless and I'd recommend giving this one a bash!

This build was uploaded on the 5th August 2021.

I hope that the you find my build journey informative.
