1970 Chevelle SS 396 (red with black SS stripes)

This model is an approximation of the real Chevelle my friend Mike M. had right after we graduated high school. It was a true SS 396 in red with black stripes, black interior and black vinyl top. It was a 4-speed and the engine was built up with Holley, Edelbrock and Hooker parts. The thing was bad fast too. We had to go WAY out to the country to look at it which helped as they only wanted $1000 for it. If it wasn't, it would have been snatched up long before we got there. This model is the closest to box stock as I have ever built. I did add some photo etch emblems. I am about 70% happy with the paint and 95% happy with all the details.

Bill Newcomer Worked on the interior this weekend. Took the pre-painted interior from the black Chevelle kit and added minor touches with chrome Molotow pen.

Bill Newcomer Made more progress today. Did all the Bare Metal Foil and added the black SS stripes. Unfortunately they are so old they look gator grain vinyl. But they are all I have. Next up are some photoetch emblems.

Bill Newcomer I got the photoetch emblems on today. I have to let them be. Next step Future clear coat. I am not brave enough to clear coat an off brand paint with any real solvent based clearcoat. (I don't have any more SS stripes to start over.

Bill Newcomer Well.... My Future clear coat didn't go as planned. Played with the roof too long and left brush strokes in it. Also got a run AND a kitty hair in the driver's side quarter panel. The good news is with Future you can erase your boo boos with a Q-tip and some ammonia cleaner.

Bill Newcomer Decals, BMF, photoetch and clearcoat done. I learned I CAN put teeny tiny decals on tiny photoetch parts AND I can put tiny photoetch parts on decals. YAY!

26. May 2019, 07:52
Bill Newcomer Craft store enamel. Clear coated in Future which I believe is Acrylic.

Bill Newcomer James and Chris, Thanks. Doing spark plug wires is kind of a pain but it makes engines look much more realistic.
