Thanks Robert. I ran into some trouble with the decals. They suck. Period. I am going to try and touch them up with paint. In the mean time check out the interior!

So if anyone is curious the seatbelts are difficult to cut right. I recommend cutting them narrower than the guide. I painted them blue, unthinned and with multiple coats. It kind of soaked up the paint.

I will post photos of my decal debacle after i finish them and come up with a recovery. I HAVE to finish this by Friday so I can enter it in a local contest.

Tom ...
Good luck on the time frame. Nothing like pressure to keep you focused! Make sure to take photos even if you don't have time to post them right now. Would love to see how this turns out.

Robert,
I uploaded the photos. It's... good enough. I am hoping my 2K clear poppes enough to get the judges attention. I have it on good authority that I will be one of the only cars entered 😉

Tom,
Lots of photos. Hope you enjoy!

Thanks for following along

Those were some tough decals to lay down. Clear coat is looking good. Does 2K take long to cure?

Tom, I am told it takes 48 hours to cure to a touch. But about 7 days before you can polish. I am going to go without polishing this though because most of the results I have seen (if you can keep it *relatively* dust free) look great. I really like what Splash has done with there chemistry, apparently, it's a new formula that is better at self-leveling. Shot at 30PSI it really lays down nice.

Thanks Robert! I love the Ferrari killer and I am a Ferrari fan! LOL. The touch up doesn't look half bad right?

If you guys want to see what the photos look like right side up (I really need to stop uploading from my phone :-x) here is a link to my build thread.

That's about a right time frame, Took me about a month on my Nicky Camaro. I discovered the less I touch it, the better it looks LOL !

Finished! I will post proper photos tomorrow. I love the way this came out. The kit was no Tamiya kit but with care a very nice offering. I spent more time on this model than any previous and for my 4th build I am very pleased with the results. If you look through my galleries and see the Porsche I finished in January and then this you can see the improvements I have made. Tomorrow I will polish/wipe it down and shoot some photos in the light. Stay tuned!

Looks bloody awesome! I see a medal in your future. Speaking of which, did you use Future on the clear pieces?

M M
Thanks for all the kind words guys. Tom, no I didn't. I thought about it but decided not to this go round. I just made sure to not touch them much or use a gloved hand. I also *cough steal cough* borrow microfiber towels from work and have been wiping it down after each time handling it. After Saturday's event I won't be so anal about it and might put a coat of Future on the windows to see if it shines them up further. I couldn't believe how clear the little 1:72 FW-190 canopy came out when I did that last week.
12 April 2019, 21:16
Tom ...
Yeah, I don't know what it is about Future but it definitely makes the plastic look more like glass. I can't remember as a kid if modelers did something similar back then.

For those curious I took Second in class at yesterday's model competition. I was pretty happy! It was hosted by one of the LHS so i won $10 in store credit. Now the hard part is trying to decide on what to buy next ????????

I have the Revell version of this. I need to finish that build, when I can dig it out. Odd as it seems, mine is a different colour? Same number, but in blue. I'll have to do some research on that. Nice build though buddy

Bozzer Mario Andretti drive a blue one. I believe number 6. The first year he drove it ('66) it was all blue and he DNFed. I think by '67 it was blue with a neon yellow trim around the hood.

Hey guys, just a quick update. That Revell kit I mentioned? 7130 was the kit number and it was definitely in Guardsman Blue. An oddity, I agree, but that's what I have. Beginning to think I should've saved it now, instead of building it. It also has a small PE fret, that's made by that famous Chinese company. Anyway, I'll try to get some pictures, if you are interested? Let me know M M.

Sorry guys, but you might find that link super interesting. I'll get some pictures soon.

@bozzer the link is dead for me. Post up the photos of the kit. According to SM its 1989 vintage. Looking at some of the other folks that built it up it almost looks identical to the Fujimi mold, I wonder if Fujimi just bought the molds from Revell? Anyways here is a link for your Guardsman Blue GT. First photo and scroll down you can see Andretti some ways down.

@Robert! YES! I want to see that movie. If you haven't seen this documentary that the movie I think it going to be based on its worth it! I loved it. amazon.com/24-Hour-W..s=gateway&sr=8-1

For those not in the US its called "The 24 Hour War"

The link relates to an article by Harry Kennison. He was a photographer, back in the day, and it tells of his experience at Sebring. Man, that story had me glued to the screen! Try to Google it, I'm sorry that the link didn't work for you, it's the only one I have, I think?
6 May 2019, 21:44
Bozzer
Yep, sorry guys, that's the only link.
6 May 2019, 21:48

Failing that, try Dan Gurney. 12 hours of endurance at Sebring. Man, that's gotta be the best story I've read in a long time!
