After months of sanding, the fuselage is closed and the wings are on. A little more sanding and then I can finally start with the final assembly, and then painting. This project will take a while…

Impressive project. Looking good so far.

So still a difficult kit to tackle fit wise despite being 3D printed. I expected a better fit TBH, I have this kit on my wish list but your remarks makes me think again about buying it. Not fancying months of sanding and rescribing to be honest. Looking forward to more updates so I can make up my mind

Tyu, the fit was disappointing to say the least. The interior is nice, but it means the fuselage doesn't fit together at all. The tolerances are far too small for the parts to line up nicely. Part of it is probably my own fault, but I can't really see how I could have improved the fit. And the fuselage has a separate roof section to show the interior. The idea sounds good, but it doesn't fit at all. Leaving it as a separate part therefore is not an option if you want to make a good model. The underside is even worse, because both the interior and bomb bay don't fit within the fuselage. I sanded those as much as I could, but still an enormous gap was the result. And the surface texture is a huge problem as well as the first photo shows. Getting rid of that really took up the majority of the sanding work. Rescribing is also on the to-do list, but the panel lines in the parts were way too wide anyway.

So in short, you get a plastic part shaped like an Orion, that has horrible texture and doesn't fit. Detail is sparse and the detail that's there will be lost due to al the sanding required to get an acceptable result. And don't get me started on the detail parts. Those have the same texture problems, but are impossible to sand. The manufacturers reluctance to use a modern 3D printing technology is really the main cause of the problems in this kit. There is absolutely no reason why the detail parts couldn't be manufactured using resin 3D printing.

Thank you for showing us the build issues with this FDM printed kit. I wonder now if it would be better to go with a vacuform kit (assuming it exists). I've done a little bit of FDM printing, and I've noticed that it's difficult to get parts to an exact size because the print head over-runs the edges a little, and 90 degree corners end up with less than 90 degrees.

Even with resin printing, dimensional accuracy can be lacking and sometimes pieces are distorted. But I think it's better than fdm overall.

David, I think that despite the work required, I prefer this over a vacuform kit. It is all very sturdy and easier to work with. I'm aware of the limitations of 3D printing, but that's why tolerances are so important. Resin printing largely solves the texture problem, which is especially important on small or complex parts.

It's this one Ben 77propeller.com/prod..cils-110-mm-x-70-mm/
My local hobby shop had these, and I needed something like that for this marbling painting. They work perfectly for that. I also used them on my Tornado.

You bought it already printed or you printed it yourself?
17 October 2022, 10:04
Jasper Breur
It's a 3D printed kit. Things would have been a lot better and easier if I printed it myself

I've been curious about this guys kits because he has some really cool subjects. But he comes across a little unhinged on his website, and after seeing what you're dealing with, yeah, it'd be better to print yourself and find tune things to come out better.

He makes interesting subjects, but the execution is garbage, especially for the prices he's asking. I wouldn't recommend them to anyone.

Solid progress this weekend, most painting is done and I'm more than pleased with how this is turning out. Next big obstacle is creating the decals

Thank you Thijs! Decals are almost all applied, thanks again for the help! I made a bit of a mistake however, so I don't have enough stencils.
