it is quite good actually!!. better than the first 🙂
if i may give a suggestion.... try to thin more the paint. in picture 9, you see that it was maybe a bit too thick when you did the black "dirty" areas. all those tiny dots usually are a mark of paint being too thick. unless that look was exactly what you were trying to achieve.

Hey Spanjaard, thanks a lot for your comment!!

And also thanks for any kind of suggestions, I really am trying to soak up all information I can - and indeed you are right, what I was aiming *for* was the nice, subtle exhaust-soot like effect which I managed to do on the actual exhaust.

At this point, some of the finer aspects of airbrushing are still a bit hit and miss for me. You see, I am mainly using Gunzes Mr. Hobby Color Acrylics (which are really great!) and sometimes they behave a bit erratically, though:

I had the paint thinned down 1 paint : 9 thinner for that sooty effect, and STILL it came out spotty - iirc I had it down to 1:15 on the exhaust, which looked lovely.

Some other parts, mainly with lighter shades of paint, the paint sprayed on runny when thinned down to 1:9, I had go up to 3:7 to actually work with it.

And then yesterday I was mottling some white preshading, again at a ratio of 1:9, and it came out a bit spotty again.

This really needs more practice, but given that it's my 2nd model I think I got most of the basics down! 😄

(Everything with a 0.35 mm nozzle at around 1 bar / 15 psi - gotta work with what I have, a finer airbrush is on my extended wishlist 😉 )

In the end, the effect at the brass ejection ports doesn't look that bad in real life - it IS a bit dramatic, but then I am not counting rivets anyway and during my time in the army I was cursing a lot too when removing soot after exercise firing. 😄

ha ha ha. dirt is certainly a subjective matter 🙂
anyway, I am sure it looks better in real life than in pictures. Sometimes pictures, specially close ups, can be deceiving. sometimes looking my own pictures I thought "it looks like crap!!"but then i tried to see them with the naked eye realized i could not see them almost at all, and that was before ending in the corner of a cockpit where will be impossible to see them.
Airbrush can be tricky to master, but I would have stopped with the hobby without it.... painting complete models with brushes is like dark magic for me (my deepest respect for Augie and those few chosen ones that practice that hidden magic). a good airbrush can make a big difference, and finding the right ratios of paint/thinner takes quite some practice. in all forums you will see the mantra "use only the thinner from the paint manufacturer". in a recent seminar in Scale Model Challenge with Christian Gerard i learn that opposite. some brands actually work better with other thinners. and he was even mixing things even more, different types of thinners... and his results are amazing, believe me.

Yeah, it boils down to practicing after all - I am following a few great youtube scalemodellers, and the things I see are still kinda magic to me. But at the end of the day you want to have fun, improve on yourself and be satisfied with the result 🙂

Anyone and everyone can improve still, so I try to stay humble, enjoy myself and build models that are pleasing to my eye.

All kind comments here are the cherry on top. 🙂

Very nice looking 190. Great work all around. Like Spanjaard notes, it takes a lot of practices to get the weathering effects down to a science.

Thanks for the kind words, Bryn! It sure is, but then: learning is fun, isn't it? 🙂

Thanks, Gastón, much appreciated! 🙂

Album info

So, my second scale model after I got back into the hobby is finished! I still made a lot of mistakes and see much room for improvement, still: I am quite proud of myself, since it turned out a massive improvement over my first model already!!
