Thanks Stefan. I enjoyed the build and it gave me an opportunity to learn about Lt Steinhauser's combat career.

Thanks Katya. I think it's a great part of the build; had to use the decal for that one though. My guess is Steinhauser got the idea for the face from Werner Voss. I also have a book that shows a German Airman painted a face on his Fokker D-VI. He named his aircraft "Fratz" and served in a home defense unit.

Album info

This model represents the aircraft flown by Lt Werner Steinhauser as it appeared in February 1918. Steinhauser was assigned to Jasta 11 on the Western Front. Squadron markings for Jasta 11 aircraft included red cowling, struts and wheels. The model is the 1/48 scale Eduard kit.
