Slowly starting to paint the model. This is done with a paintbrush because masking for airbrush would be a nightmare... Slow and easy is the method so far.
Painting the bricks in some brown-red base colour. Should work with lighter highlight drybrushed later... The clear blue looks horrible though but I'll sort that out later.

Jens AndréeOne error I've already made is to use a non-matt paint for the blue colour... I used Tamya X-14 instead of XF-14 🙁 I'm going to have to fix this later so they surface isn't so shiny, but the colour looks great apart from this. Learning is fun but sometimes I prefer to be right from the beginning😉

You could airbrush a clear Matt varnish over the gloss blue.

Jens AndréeRui S - it's going to get a matt varnish before weathering anyway but you got me thinking... Doesn't Tamiya have a matt base they're selling? I think it's called X-21. It's made to "convert" clear paint to flat. I wonder if it works as a separate coat? Thanks for the tip! 🙂

I use matt varnish over gloss surfaces and normally it works reducing the shiny finish.
