Kerry COX Lode. Well said and appreciated.
I know that all the brass added will certainly help define her majestic lines and give her what a simple kit needs to have in order to achieve that.
I was simply wondering, what would she look like without these added details, as a kit. ;)
I am sure that at the Schildermans ship yard, no detail will be left unattended in the quest to have the HMS HOOD presented in all her finery and magnificence.
"Rivet's Up' !!! :) :) :)

Martin Oostrom In case you need more info:
hmshood.com/hoodtoday/models/trumpeter/trumpeter200.htm
But I have a feeling you already have way more info...
20. November at 22:27:14
Tim Heimer Wow! That's a wealth of info!
20. November at 23:15:32
Lode Schildermans Martin, your feeling is correct :). I've also John Roberts' book about battlecruiser HMS Hood. The research part is quite important in ship building
Tim, I do research on every build. It's the fun part and necessary to have all details good in place. Sometimes, manufacturers have some flaws in their design that can be corrected and I use this info for a bit scratch building
21. November at 06:10:13
Tim Heimer I research as well, but the detail on that site impressed me!
21. November at 14:51:12
21. November at 16:17:51
James C Awesome to see it already taking shape.
21. November at 17:18:59
Lode Schildermans Tim, the success would be on this site with my build. I may dream, not?
Bart much camo on this ship :) That's for the next build
James, I agree. I've a new CA glue. tricky to use, but when well applied, no traces of glue. It works extremely well on the main turrets. Photos will follow. This will be a slower build than HMS Rodney. Aiming for more perfection and crisp building

Lode Schildermans I had a problem with the album, so I had to reload all the progress. Almost ready for primering
5. November at 22:14:00
James C Looks like a fabulous kit. Any further updates?
7. November at 17:34:39
Lode Schildermans Yep, i did the Cologne camo late 1944
11. November at 20:58:11
Lode Schildermans I starts to look as a tank
12. November at 22:14:15
James C Nice job on the camouflage. What do you intend to use for the tracks... stick with what's in the box or replace them with metal links?
13. November at 17:36:10
Lode Schildermans Thank you James. A bit particular, that camo, but, it's me, hé ;). At the beginning, I thought to build this one straight from the box, but I couldn't resist the PE update, so, I had no other option than provide this little tank with Friul tracks
13. November at 18:03:16
James C Awesome, I was hoping you would as they will really look the part on this one.
13. November at 18:04:52
Lode Schildermans When I see the difference, it should. Mig burnishing fluid to make it more real
13. November at 19:42:21
Neuling Looking forward .....
13. November at 19:48:42
James C I tried burnishing fluid once (on my Tiger 1 build) but didn't particularly like it as it scratches easily, exposing the bare metal beneath the burnished surface, and it also transfers a lot of dirt/filth to your hands when handling. (A protective clear matt coat may help prevent this)
It can also be tricky getting it into all the recesses of the individual links. I've since reverted to just airbrushing them instead as I find that I can get more control over the finished appearance.

A.MiG 7437 Dry Earth Tracks is invaluable for weathering...

Martin Oostrom I totally agree with Spanjaard and JJ.
I can only wonder what you're up to next....

Holger Kranich Grabbin´ a seat, leaning back, enjoying the show... Hell yeah, Lode! :)
31. October at 08:13:07
Lode Schildermans JJ, it is an all time classic and it stays a bautiful tank. Thanks for the compliment
Spanjaard & Martin, thanks, mates.
Holger, welcome here. Glad to have you on board
31. October at 19:22:00
Greg Baker Welcome to Scalemates! It's a great community and I'm sure you'll have a great time. However, I don't mean to be rude, but I suggest you should change your username. We already have a well-renowned Scalemates member who goes by the the name "Lode Schildermans" who only builds museum-quality scale ship models. We should probably avoid any confusion, but good luck with your tank! It's coming along nicely!
31. October at 23:06:15
Lode Schildermans Greg, it was a pleasure to read your hilarious comment. Well, Lode Schildermans is not building a tank, but a landbattleship, so it could be we're the same person, me and the other Lode Schildermans

16. August 2018 at 22:23:50
guillaume hi very nice build, can you tell me the reference of the paint who you use for the camouflage please?
28. October at 14:57:59
Lode Schildermans Hi, I used Vallejo paints on this one, but I've learned in the mean time that the colors aren't nit entierly the right ones (the scheme is correct) On sovereignhobbies.com, you'll find more accurate information about RN colors. My last 2 builds have been done with MRPaint and it took a while to find matching colors for the RN colors
28. October at 22:24:01
guillaume Thanks for the link i use too the vallejo paint and tamiya or mr.color i will look what is better for have the good color and try to make a nice kit same as you :)

Lode Schildermans @Treehugger : I hope it will be fun to build as it is to watch. And she'll come in her grey camo
@Holger : Permission granted, Holger
27. September at 07:02:05
James C It is soo much more than plastic in a box mate. Both warships are more than worthy of your "special" treatment. If you build Hood, then you must build the Bismarck as well. Bugger the politicks of the time, and respect the crews.

Very sad, but honorable tales about both warships.

27. September at 07:07:10
Martin Oostrom Definitely watching the next masterpiece from Lode
27. September at 07:15:44
Lode Schildermans James, sorry if I gave the impression that it is just some pieces of plastic. I meant with my reply that I got already 5 comments in this thread for a build that actually still is in it's box. Of course I'll my best to honor the crew who lost his life on that fateful day in May. And I confirm that Bismarck will be built as the last of the 3 ships 1/200 scale with a common history, Rodney being the first, as intended a while ago.

Martin, nice to have you on board

Stuart Perry@Lode Schildermans
I could do with some PE advice, as I’ve read people place in vinegar or similar to roughen the surface before painting. And- do you paint the PE before fixing in place?
7. January at 18:16:38 Share
Martin Oostrom I have no clue about the vinegar.
Painting depends on where you are putting your pe. If it's a door on a 1/700 ship that will be the same colour as the superstructure; afterwards. If it's something stand alone or easier to paint separately; before.
It totally depends on your build and your preferences.
7. January at 19:13:44
Lode Schildermans Hi Stuart. I use tamiya colorless primer for my PE parts. It lays a thin layer. Since I work with MRP paints, I use the primer for the same reason. As Martin mentioned, if the PE is in the same color flat on plastic, I put the PE in place before painting. Fragile parts are painted separately before putting in place. And yes, it depends on what you build. In case of ships, as I do, I suggest you look through my albums to get an idea what I put unpainted and what PE is painted before putting in place. But that is how I work
7. January at 23:00:42
Stuart Perry Thanks very much Lode, Martin. I'll take a look. Thanks again fur your time and advice.

Lode Schildermans Plastic? Oh yes, it is that product that I need to put on the metal parts, right :)
7. January at 06:09:18
Martin Oostrom Is there a website out there with variations for compliments? I'm running out of options here and I don't want to be too repetitive.
You should do one of those metal earth kits Lode. No plastic involved ;)
7. January at 07:10:37
Peter Hardy Hey I've been looking at them lately! We must be mentally connected Marty!
7. January at 08:11:43
Martin Oostrom I bought two last week :D
7. January at 09:39:56
Lode Schildermans Martin, Peter. I should look for a website where I can find a lot of variations for 'thank you, chaps »
A good idea for me, those metal earth kits, but I possibly miss the smell of glue
7. January at 18:02:33
Martin Oostrom You don't HAVE to glue them, but you CAN ;)
7. January at 19:01:43
Greg Baker I've tried one of those kits. Apparently just bending the little tabs is enough to hold it together... for everyone other than me. My CN Tower from Toronto looks like a post-apocalypse version, all bent and rumpled. I haven't dared touch the Parthenon or the Coliseum yet...
7. January at 22:41:48
Martin Oostrom Those last two should be realistic when wrecked ;)
