Very nice man cave! But the library could use some expansion... 😉 (yes, just a dumb joke...)

Looks like a cosy place for the common plastic lunatic!

That looks like a nicely organised room and workspace Martin. Quite compact, I hope you don't intend to do a 1/48 B-52 any time soon.
21 March 2017, 15:45
Martin Oostrom
I'd love to do a B-52. Just not in 48.
The bench is small and I don't have a place to show a lot of my builds. Every now and then my nephew aged 3 comes by and he gets a new plane to play with. Just to make space. First in, first out😉

Nice place to be Martin 👍 🙂

Nice and cat free - Mine is also cat free plus I too recently had to do a little 'home improvement' but not by my choosing. Check out my SCM wall.

Martin I think it came out well, as far as I can tell! My neck is sore from tilting to look at your pics!! LOL Robbie: That is the same way I keep my area CAT free! LOL

No photos of the contractor doing the work, just one of an enslaved minor working for food.

I knew you'd been busy Marty, I am not bleeding anywhere! Looks like a major job though worth it in the long run though. When do you start on the tent outside for Mrs Oostrom and the little Oostroms so you have enough room for the models?

Lode, I have a man cave in the back bedroom of my house, but sometimes Mrs Hardy won't allow me in it. That woman has a ferocious temper!

Oops! Got the sequence wrong. 🙁
Right now the room's empty. Pictures with all the mess is BEFORE. I will fix the sequence later.

Sequence fixed. Today we painted the wall and watched it drying. Then a small start on the floor.

Actually, there's a -15C wind chill over here. No snow as of yet. So I guess a tent is out of the question for the moment. I've been feeding that minor for over 12 years, it's about time he's doing some work for it 😉

Nice remodel indeed 👍

Martin, you say -15C like it's cold or something! I live in Chicago and a few weeks ago I was talking to Peter via skype while in my garage with a t-shirt on and the garage temp was -2C. Quit wimping out and get that tent up! LOL

Marty has slayed the carpet monster!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
2 March 2018, 00:39
Martin Oostrom
Yes I did. 😎
But there are already some rumours that it's evil cousin, the laminated wood monster, is coming over here for revenge. I've heard it is especially fond of grey plastic 🙁

Hey Marty, what is that thing on the wall with the pipes?

I envy you! It is the best feeling when you know you finally get to redo the place you love spending time at. And even better when you know you can tailor it to your needs. Enjoy your new area!

You're kidding Peter? That's the radiator from the central heating system. The wooden frame is for my bench. It's screwed to te bookcase and make a very sturdy base.
Bookcase is in one piece again. Just a couple of books to put in here and get my bench back to operational status.
Took advantage of the redecorating to put a new network in place. Now everything is up to sftp 6a standard. Cables for the kids are also in place, can be connected when their rooms are redecorated in a couple of weeks.

Peter Hardy
Nope, wasn't kidding. Weather here is not likely to warrant the need for central heating. Never seen one before. We have aircon in all our homes, you would probably think us mad. It is VERY expensive to run. The house we live in here is part of my salary package and I am not able to alter anything so I am stuck with things as they are. Mrs Hardy often complains that I should open the window in my 'man cave' to let in some fresh air but it is so hot outside during summer and as we are surrounded by huge coal mines here the dust drives me up the wall. You get used to your environment though, even my carpet monster would die if I turn off the aircon! All that said the winters are freezing! We had three days last year under 20C! Unbelievable! As I don't actually own a coat, jacket, jumper or pullover I had to tough it out.

Lode's comment about the PE would be pretty precise, coming from Lode that hardly surprises, he is as precise as anyone in model building as I have ever met! When I retire I will have a hard floor in the newly built or renovated 'man cave' and I will want to know how your experience with the grey flooring went! And my retirement will be in a much cooler place!

PS. Don't think that it has gone unnoticed that the hobby room was renovated BEFORE the kids rooms! I like a man who gets his priorities right!

Lode and Martin I'm with you! Tom Clancy novels are great!

Martin Oostrom
It's so easy to forget not all parts of the world are the same. And I've been around, so I should know 🙁
Can't you use that coal mine for a big BBQ? Get rid of it AND enjoy it for once 😎

I'm terrified of the new CM coming over.... I hope we can get along!
Tom Clancy was the best. But to be honest, when the Campus got started i kinda lost interest. Tom is the reason I started reading books in English. I was reading in Dutch and I could sense the translator had missed some things, which led to a wrong translation. Got so annoyed that I started in English. One of my better decisions.

Tim Heimer
I give you credit Martin! English is such a mutt, so many languages it is made up of! Hopefully Peter will invite us to the Giant BBQ! LOL
4 March 2018, 13:18
Martin Oostrom
Try Dutch 😉 It's made from German, French, Spanish, English and perhaps some more languages.

Added some pictures for the hidden librarians among us 😎

And finally DONE!

All those books Martin, you need a hobby!

I see you have Schindler's List. Great book written by Aussie and genuine Rugby League tragic Thomas Keneally. Have you read anything else of his?
4 March 2018, 22:37
Peter Hardy
Oh, and by the way Martin, I will send out invites to a BBQ at my place on a date to be announced, families welcome. It will be outdoors, mid winter and no coats required. Better sell that big chunk of American Muscle in the garage and buy a ticket CB!
4 March 2018, 22:45
Tim Heimer
Chunk of American muscle! Why you rotten POM!!!

nice collection of book you have there....are you a "veiligheidskundige" by trade?
5 March 2018, 15:42

nice job on the man cave. And great book collection. I should have guessed that you like Tolkien and Clancy!
5 March 2018, 16:51
Martin Oostrom
Peter, Schindlers List is the only book of Thomas' that I read. Any suggestions?
BBQ in winter time at your place means summer over here. Could the temperatures be the same?😎

Wim, I'm not a HSE coordinator, but close. I'm a Health and Safety Inspector for the Dutch Labour Inspectorate.

Book tip: Micheal Dobbs did a series on Winston Churchill......very good reading!
