She's all painted but when I went to put the vertical tails on they didn't look right so I removed the strengthening brackets. Just need to clean that mess up and put the tails back on, then a gloss coat in prep for decaling.

Yeah I used Steve's 77 Sqn 70th Anniversary Scheme decal sheets to build a couple of F/A-18's in 1/48 for Glen Beck & the CO that replaced him a couple of years ago. They were a real pleasure to use.

Got her all painted now. I'm glad it's pouring because I can use my smaller 20l tank quite air compressor, so the neighbors won't hear it. I'll be able to get a gloss coat on her and then some time tomorrow the fun part can begin, decaling.🙂

These are the worst decals I've ever used, don't line up, wrinkle, fold up on themselves, won't come of the backing paper like a good quality decal would. Absolute shit, then the owner has the balls to say my fault fuck him. You don't make a living out of building models by building shit.😠

Thanks Michael, he did at least give me a refund without me asking for one. I think I'm going to put this one aside for a while as it's really gettin on my goat. Might be time for some armor me thinks.

I find stepping away or seeing how fast I can throw it at a brick wall, I find the second option so much more gratifying.
26 March 2018, 02:26
Michael Hickey
Oh no I'm quite the oppisite, i love the second option, helps me get through my stash quicker.😢

You plane guys are so temperamental!

Sorry to hear about the crap decals.
But I find your way of looking at walling things quite, let's say, inspiring. 😉
26 March 2018, 04:40
Michael Hickey
@Michael, you hit the nail right on the head.😢 Let's see what else I can go walling with.

Hickey Airlines flight #1 is going to take off soon it seems :>

Pity though, she looks nice on the photos.

I've walked away had a shower, had a feed, had some comfort food, now I'm going to force these decals into submission by morning, even if it kills me, I will come out victorious, I don't lay down that easy.
@Thanks Rene.

That's the spirit man!

Save the aerodynamics testing for something really unfixable😉

Finally these bloody decals are on, or at least the ones that should be there. Now time for a gloss coat, and a wash for the B-25, and weathering tomorrow for this one.
28 March 2018, 05:14
Michael Hickey
Cheers Michael. After a bit of trimming here and there and checking photos of the real bird it's close enough.
28 March 2018, 06:35
Rene Scheiblich
Definitely looks the part. Nice job taming the rebelling decals!
Seems your wall is safe for now😉
Are you going for a light weathering to retain the nice, bright colours?
28 March 2018, 15:24
Michael Phillips
Wow, not sure how I missed this.... But damn, that looks awesome man!!!! Wow

Thank You Gents, actually she wasn't all that clean, but then again she was filthy like the American birds. I'll try to be restraint on the weathering though, after all she is a show bird.
28 March 2018, 22:22
Peter Hardy
Keep it clean Mick!

Very nice! I hate it when decals, after market or kit, do that crap. I have walled (actually floored for me. I find a roundhouse slam dunk to be the best) a few kits in my time as well. But you seem to have managed them quite well. I agree with keep the weathering down.
28 March 2018, 22:34
Michael Hickey
Thanks Donald, I will try and restrain myself from doing any heavy weathering.😢 Not sure how much time I have left today to work on this girl today, have to put the fridge back in my 4x4 and start packing for a long weekend camping trip.
@Peter, let me save you the trouble of asking "where you going?" Up in to the high country, about 30klm's east of Guyra.
29 March 2018, 03:43

Yeah, you told me remember?

@Peter, I did, I can't remember, my medication plays havoc with my memory.🙁

Nice to see you have her all fixed up on a really striking display. Beautiful work mate!

I am impressed Mick. Even down to using the correct hand for the stand. Was that luck or good design?
7 April 2018, 00:50
Michael Hickey
Thank You gents, your comments are over whelming.
@Peter, actually I saw the Midnight Oils logo and thought I can use that, cover the base with paperbark and then do the dot painting in the same colors. My eldest daughter supplied me the use of her hand and then she fixed it up before I cut it out of a piece of MDF.
7 April 2018, 02:06
Peter Hardy
The right hand gives and the left takes.
Great idea well executed. Thanks you for building it.

I did not know that, I'm pleased that I stayed focused on this project to get her finished. Plus Tammy was always asking when I was going to do this scheme.
7 April 2018, 03:24
Peter Hardy
Mate, means a lot to us so thanks.
7 April 2018, 03:57
Michael Hickey
Hey Peter, from the sounds of it, you like my partner Tammy have Aboriginal blood running through your veins.

Album info

This F/A-18A+ will be painted in the markings of the R.A.A.F's "Worimi Paint Scheme". The aircraft was painted this way to honour the memory of WOFF L.V Waters 1942-1946. WOFF Len Waters was the first Aboriginal fighter pilot to serve in the R.A.A.F during WW II. The name "WORIMI" is the name of the traditional land owners of the Port Stephens area and Home of the R.A.A.F Base Williamtown, N.S.W, Australia.
