Inspired by the most excellent build of this kit by "gorbygould", I decided to crack open this kit from my stash. I have completed the Kettenkraftrad! Thanks Bart, I'm quite pleased with it myself 🙂

Great job on the Kettenkrad! The 335 is a great kit, made one myself too. A joy to build. Following!

Many thanks for your nice complement Noob. I'm impressed with the after-market stuff you are throwing at this one – should be a stunner. The kettenkrad looks excellent. 🙂

Hey, MANY thanks guys 🙂 The interior is in primer & I've hacked off a lot of plastic in readiness to accept the resin replacements. No more pics until I have done the detail painting of the cockpit & interior. @Camilla, break it out of your stash, it's a great kit!

@Camilla You know its makes sense! @Thomas Come over to the dark side!!!

maybe I should get started with mine - I have an advantage: I have donated the Kettenkrad to a friend, this will speed up building time 🙂

TKS guys, come on board Thomas 🙂 I am doing the detail cockpit painting right now!

@Dave - I am about to join the party! Which paints will you use for the RLM 76/81/82 camouflage?

@Thomas Tamiya for the internals but I will be using MRP for the outsides, they are ready to go out of the bottle and go down beautifully. hmhobbies.co.uk @Ed Welcome, get the kit & join the dark side 🙂 @gorbygould Do you see what you have started?!?! Progress on the build has slowed as I had two AFV to finish and I am having some fit issues with the resin wheel-bays.

Wing & fuselage halves are now joined up and the resin fuel tank installed.

One of my favorite planes....count me in!

Welcome Wim 🙂 Some more progress with the wings on, resin flaps added and the underside painted RLM65. There will now be a pause because I'm an idiot and didn't actually order the required paints for the top side, DOH!

nice coming along! Was it no problem to paint the underside of the rear air intake? I am wondering whether to fit it before painting or not.

Andrea Morris
TKS Thomas. All the vents are PE and I primed & painted them before fitting, then I will touch-up later to cover up any over spray, no problem getting a "hairy stick" in there.

Looking very nice indeed Dave.

And final reveal time! What a great kit. The only issues I had were from the resin add-ons I used, namely the wheel wells which were a bad fit and the resin wheels which were over sized for the white metal U/C. The resin fuel tank had no problems & fitted straight in. Thanks again to "gorbygould" for inspiring me to build this kit with his great work. It is a fine kit, if you have it in your stash, build it, if not, buy it 🙂

Dave - well done .. but: isn't the canopy mounted reversed? The additional "in frame" small windows are facing front. See the boxart.
15 April 2017, 20:56
Thomas Bischoff
by the way: there does the boarding ladder come from? Scratchbuilt? I like it very much - always asked myself how the pilot could get on board.
15 April 2017, 21:07
Andrea Morris
TKS guys 🙂 @Thomas the ladder is Eduard PE, but I think it is for access to the bomb-bay not the cockpit! As to whether it's on the right side, the instructions don't tell you. There are two lugs or hinges, on the canopy and that's the side that I glued them 🙂

Very nice job Noob – excellent result. Interesting to see what I could have done to mine (if I wasn't too tight to buy the extras). 🙂
16 April 2017, 16:12
Andrea Morris
Cheers gorbygould, to tight? Are you from tup north?!?!?! 🙂
16 April 2017, 23:14
gorby
I'm not from t'north, about as middle as you can get (Coventry). My tightness is probably more genetic rather than regional.😉

Clifford Keesler
Very nice Dave.

TKS guys. @gorbygould. I'm from Leicester and tend to throw too much money at kits, OH the difference 20 miles can make 🙂 🙂

Turned out very nice Dave...Both of my 335's are spending some time in storage, but you are making me to go and dig them out!

TKS Wim 🙂 Come on, dig it out the stash 🙂

Album info

The Dornier Do 335 Pfeil "Arrow" was a World War II heavy fighter built by the Dornier company. The two-seater trainer version was also called Ameisenbär "anteater". The Pfeil's performance was much better than other twin-engine designs due to its unique "push-pull" layout and the much lower aerodynamic drag of the in-line alignment of the two engines. It was Germany's fastest piston-engined aircraft of World War II. The Luftwaffe was desperate to get the design into operational use, but delays in engine deliveries meant that only a handful were delivered before the war ended.
