Thx gorby, Robert and Moreno! Yes, it was quite difficult to keep the stripes even and straight, but the worst part has been calculate the right width, I had to reposition the tape a couple of time because the stripes didn't match the picture...

Album info

Hi everybody, I built this Roden #012 kit following the profile and picture in Windsock Datafile Special dedicated to the Albatros D.III: I cannot resist such a colourful livery!!!
I didn't have time to take some proper In Progress pictures because I was working on this and another Albatros and the Bf 109D that I posted earlier, but the kit is well known and as for all Roden's kit, lots of dry fitting and some filling is required, plus some rescribing and adding some hatches due to the different OAW version: I had to trim the main struts too, and added seatbelts from Eduard and rigging with Uschi fine elastic wire.
I masked the white polished Tamiya white with strips of 2mm. Tamiya kabuki tape until I covered 4,5mm. stripes , then I airbrushed the Mr. Color H414 RLM23 red.

I concentrated a lot on the fuselage and tail striping because the top profile in my reference is wrong, the top view doesn't match the correct side view: I checked all the models already built on the web, but most if not all of them didn't have the right proportion between red (or black, your choice...) and white stripes.
After a careful study of the only picture I have, I finally managed to find the solution, but in the end I completely forgot to check the top wing!!!
I discovered that I masked one stripe less on the top wing only when I was placing the decal, so I had to spray the white again and re-do a proper masking...
Like for my Bf 109D decals, Roden's too didn't cover enough the red paint, resulting in a tedious brush painting of all the crosses' white border.
I simulated the turnbuckles with some thick silver paint.
In the picture it looks like if it was freshly painted so I kept the weathering to the minimum needed.
I didn't spend too much time refining and adding details to this model, my aim was to add it to my collection in a short time and as so you will see lots of small imperfection here and there, I hope you will like it anyway!!!
Thanks for looking!
Ciao
Andrea
