David HenykI have similar sin, I spent a lot of time with looking into boxes dreaming how I could build this or that 🙂 Luckily modelling is an art not a sport there is no pressure on performance 🙂

Alec KHey David, glad you like it. I am in preliminary planning stages to build an early Mistel combination. Summer is coming, so my modeling will slow down a bit (family frowns upon dad dwelling in his modeling cave too much when it's nice out 😄 )

Great idea with the inclined jig to paint the wooden layers on the propeller. I was trying to do a similar thing, but horizontally and it had a few issues. I will have to try it your way.
Rigging looks good. I like how you used the metal wire to simulate the turnbuckles. You could use the same approach with a pantyhose thread. It stretches and twists like no one else's business, but if you have something solid at the end to grab onto, it is way easier to work with. May be try it next time, I think you will like the scale look of it.

The wooden propeller jig works better than free-handing it, but the fine Sharpie is still a bit too thick for 1:72. It should be great for larger scales though.
The rigging worked better than my BH-21 attempt. It's a tedious process and time consuming, but the result is ok. Without the metal ends, the EZ line is a pain to work with. May have to give the nylon a try at some point...

David AndrsAlec K: Free-handing the propeller layers never worked for me. My plan is to do the light base wood color then do separation lines, then paint the dark layers. I am gonna go with a mechanical pencil rather than a sharpie.
EZ line works great if you can use eyelets and thread it through them. Gel CA works better for glueing it than liquid (at least that's my experience). One hand holds it stretched (too much tension is not good) then the other touches the glue point the CA, wait 3 seconds, release. Done 🙂

Alec KDavid: when you say "separation lines", you mean boundaries between the light and dark layers? And then paint in between? I imagine this would allow for proper wood layer thickness.
Regarding gluing the EZline: you are absolutely correct about the thicker CA glue. I did switch to medium CA recently and it works better (I need to amend my build narrative). I was worried it would create too much buildup, but that turned out to be an unfounded concern. It works particularly well for creating a bond at the tip of the metal rod. What gel CA do you use?

Gel CA: I use Loctite gel CA. I get it in my regular grocery store. I apply it with an old airbrush needle. It does not need a whole lot of glue - less is more.

My current obsession with everything "Avia" continues. I started this build with an express purpose to finally figure out how to do biplane rigging. The rigging turned out ok in the end, and I am happy with the result.
I can't say enough about the kit. Very well engineered, it went together flawlessly.
