Ian Doody AuthorWhere it's at, waiting for inspiration. Needs an allover gunk wash, as I'm doing mine as near the end of its life, so it'll have fading panels, and lots of weathering. I can't do spotless and brand new.

Ian Doody AuthorOne of my favourite aircraft. Our Royal Navy Fleet Air Arm stuff was always bizarre, ugly to some, but I love the weird and wacky designs. Not the safest aircraft, but they were designed to do a dangerous job, the takeoff and landing on our small attack Carriers HMS Victorious, HMS Eagle and HMS Ark Royal. Had we been dragged into the Vietnam War, these and our Buccaneers would have been possibly our frontline ground attack aircraft, in a similar role to the US NAVY A-4 Skyhawks and Skyraiders.

Ian Doody AuthorAlmost finished, just a few more bits and bobs, then that's it. Just the guns, cockpit glass and the rear mount plate to do. All painted by hand, by brush, using old/modern craft store and Vallejo acrylics, weathered with watered down acrylic washes.

Ian Doody AuthorThat's me done for today. Managed to get the engine in its cradle, just some wiring, piping and small details still to go. Unsure about fitting the dust skirts around the fuel tanks and engine, as it'll obscure the detail. Hmm.

Ian Doody AuthorWorking on the suspension today, very basic but does the job, decided against using the metal suspension parts, as I don't think they add anything. Added strengthening bars to the engine cage, added the suspension anti roll bar. Built and painted up one wheel and tyre for a dry fit. Looking good so far. Painted with scale75 and Vallejo acrylics, weathered with Vallejo, other watered down acrylic and ink washes. Not bad for a vintage 70s kit. Still a load of wiring and plumbing to go in the engine bay.

Ian Doody AuthorWIP, 1983 ROTJ Airfix/MPC A-Wing Light Starfighter. Getting there, still deleting details. Airfix has the crappy tinted canopy, may switch out with a scratch built one from a F-14. Guns will be all converted to brass rod and wire detailing, need two cheap Revell 1/48 F-16 air intakes for the rear hyperdrive engines, as the kit part is naff. Side Torpedo launchers will be cut out and scratch built. I've already moved the rear central bulkhead further in so it's more scale. I won't actually use the landing gear, it'll be on a stand eventually. Size comparison to the 1/72 Rogue Squadron A-Wing I built last year

Ian Doody AuthorWorking on the rear Jump engine area, these will need replacing with 1/48 F-16 air intake parts, two stacked on top of each other, and some flatter jet nozzles, like the Bandai 1/72.
