Album info

Hi everyone!

I built the Apollo astronaut from Revell.

The kit is, given the age, already pretty run down. If Revell talks in a building manual about "Attention, this needs filling and sanding!", then it is very, very necessary. The astronaut itself had large offsets at the construction joints, sometimes so that one could see through them. The contours of the suit also only sometimes fitted between the parts. So, a lot of grinding, filling and carving. But hey, what is a model builder for!
Great praise, as always, for the decals from Revell. Even with the worst re-release kits they are always first class. Also here, ultra thin and well printed.

I made the moon-surface a bit "rougher" with spray glue and quartz sand. With a (very uneven) can priming with Tamiya grey primer the whole thing looked deceptively similar to the real pictures, therefore no further painting work necessary.

I covered the landing leg with the silver and gold side of rescue foil. It works quite well.

The visor is (thanks to transparent orange plastic) simply sprayed with Mig polished aluminum from the inside, so it looks like gold-vaporized glass from anywhere over 30cm.

I hope you like it!
