Beautiful 👍This thing is HUUUGE! Also thought about building this one in 1:72. Were the gaps really that bad that it was even mentioned in the manual to use putty at certain areas?

I like it a lot. 🙂 I wish the photos of finished models were larger on this website though.

Nice nice work. I've done lots of lighting projects, so I know how much work they add to the job. Did you do it all yourself or was there some in the kit?

Indeed a very nice job and presentation 👍

At least the instructions were "honest" in showing the need for putty. I like very much models with lights and this one is a beauty. Well done.

Thank you all for your kind words! It really is the prime piece on my airliner shelf.

> Were the gaps really that bad that it was even mentioned in the manual to use putty at certain areas?

Oh god yes. This kit is a grave for putty. I think I used almost a whole tube on it. The fuselage is split in 3 tubes, forward, mid, aft, and the mid section is a small bit too narrow, so I had to putty and sand the transitions to make it look smooth.

> I've done lots of lighting projects, so I know how much work they add to the job. Did you do it all yourself or was there some in the kit?

I did it myself. Only thing that was prefab were the thin wires on the SMD LEDs and I ordered a circuit for the flash sequence. Next time I definitely will not put the LEDs directly into the plane's hull but use some kind of fiber optics and run them through the plastic. The cables are way too brittle and cumbersome to putty in and sand without damaging.

> At least the instructions were "honest" in showing the need for putty.

True. It really lives up to its "reputation".

Thank you very much!

You sanded over the cables/wires? I've had some issues with wires breaking, but that's mostly been with fiddly little wires for motors that I've been trying to stuff into the engine cowlings for 1/144 builds. A 1/72 commercial passenger jet seems like there would be PLENTY of room to run all the wires along the inside... safely away from and putty and sanding needs. Or am I just not understanding the process here?

> You sanded over the cables/wires?

As I said before the crash: the cables run inside the plastic, but I had to sand the LEDs flush with the surface, sometimes I struck a cable there.

Would you be so kind to tell me what motors you used exactly? Im still looking for some...

Seems to me some comments were lost here. That doesn;t mean I stopped to admire your lovely lamp 🙂

Peter, Greg mentioned 8mm x 4 mm micromotors . I used thé same for my 1/144 Hercules and for thé tail rotor of my Seaking. I bought them on eBay from a chinese vendor called motorhouse and paid 2 euro for 5, shipment included. It took 3 weeks to get them. I also tried optic fiber on the Herc it worked well at the start, but thé leds went out as they ran at thé same powersource as thé motors. I learned that you have to balance thé circuits with resistors in series.
You could protect smd leds by covering them with a drop of "still water" of similar transparent resin.

Yeah. I remember replying to this one... Erik is correct. Just go on eBay (or Alibaba) and search 8mm x4mm micro motors, you should find them easily enough. They can be a bit touchy and I've killed 3-4 of them for no reason I can figure out. So make sure you order more than the job requires, just in case. They're cheap enough to warrant that.

Now I want to see this Herc...😉
