That's some high tech instruments. 👍
Luky you. I'm completly envious

JD
Thank you for a look at your tools. I'm still wondering how you can do all that amazing detail work.. 🤔

Whow! I've never seen anything as small as those miniature files. And I need me one of those proxxon holding vices.😉

Thx mates! You can find the micro files here, but at the moment only the round one.
fohrmann.com/en/micr..d-length-100-mm.html
The price is ok with 16,90€, the square one was 42,90€. Nice shop BTW.
Regarding the vice take care, Proxxon has also a cheep green one MS4, this metal one is called PM40.

Thanks for the link to the micro files! I was looking for something like this for a long time.

Great info! Thank you 👍

So alt die Bohrerbox aussieht, scheint Dir nie einer abzubrechen. Meine 0,1 - 0,4 brechen mir ständig ab. :/

Slavo Hazucha
The tools are just as good as the craftsman who wields them...😉 That said, it looks like a very pleasant gathering of little helpers! And the ongoing results speak for themselves 👍

My top-tool atm is a DSPIAE cutter - I got it as a gift and a great gift it makes - with all the flamboyant packaging & "unboxing experience" 🙂 But it also is a really great tool - well made & precise - I like the brand a lot... Something for a slow build-up...

I apparently need a whole lathe machine now, for a project, but bah, I can't justify that kind of expense anytime soon. 🙂

That's not all, where is the magic wand??? And the electron microscope? And the contract written with blood where you sold your soul to the dark lord?

Liar...

I'd like to know if one the tools we are not seeing, is a set of magnifying glasses... You must have better than 20/20 vision!
13 July 2020, 18:25
bughunter
Thx mates! If you all order the micro-files you should get commission on your next tool order!
@Slavo I got that cutter also as gift. Not only the unboxing expirience, there was also a check possible, that this one is the "real" cutter, because that Chinese company has problems with illegal copies.
@Treehugger See pic 10 and 11, something like that? May be a little big for the actual modeling a Watchmaker lathe would be nice.
@Alexander No magic, "Ich koche auch nur mit Wasser".
@JD There are magnifying glasses in my lamps, but I can't use them. If both eyes looking through the same lens, the 3D view is away and no depth information anymore. I am short-sighted and work without glasses.
I need to take pictures of my Proxxon maschines.

something tells me that a watchmaker lathe is way beyond my tool budget.....

Cool set up. That skylight is A+ for natural light 👍. I am in a basement so light is an issue.

may i ask about the lamp you have? I need to get one, and yours looks really interesting

The lamps are from "MAUL", name is "MAULvitrum" with 2x 9W U form daylight tubes in each, so I have light from four directions. They are available with a stand and brace, the brace version has longer arms. 8 years old now, may be there is now better lamps with LED in meantime?
@Alec yes, I love the daylight! The only issue is sometimes in winter, that it is frozen by snow and ice, so I can't airbrush.

thanks!

Seems like there migth be some LED version, just found it on random: kaiserkraft.ie/light..amp-base/p/M4080692/ (I don't know this website though, Ireland I guess)

"With 108 LEDs, 6500 Kelvin, daylight white, 1620 Lux brightness at 35 cm distance, luminous flux 470 lumens."
14 July 2020, 14:30
Spanjaard
www.maul.de if you want to see the brand site... what does not make sense is that the modern LED version maul.de/office/en/sh..aulvitrum/?card=5828 have LEDS that can not be replaced. I quote the website "The lamp contains built-in LEDs. The LEDs cannot be replaced in the lamp". ok, it is 20.000 hours. but when the lights fail, you have to buy a new (200EUR) lamp? anybody comments?
Kaiserkraft has sites all around Europa, it seems to be originally German

Absolute impressive Frank..
Ok with this sort of equipment your works should be Top notch at least 🙂

But 200€? it is available here for 109€ bueroshop24.de/maul-..%C3%9F-2x-9-w-447961 The same shop has also a MAULvitrum with LEDs

1200 EU !!!!
wow !!
that is completely out of my budget !! 🙂
looks like a nice bit of kit though, shame it is all in German though ...
I see some gear/torque options on there but does it have any CNC capabilities I wonder ?
14 July 2020, 19:00
Spanjaard
thanks bughunter, really appreciated! i got one in amazon for similar price, looking forward getting it. my hobby room is getting its final touches 🙂
yeah, i would love that lathe too... but i will need to look for something cheaper for the time being....
14 July 2020, 20:20
bughunter
No CNC ... not even digital measurement. I got it years ago for a 3 digit sum. On the other hand you need many additional tools around it, so a plain lathe is not very useful. I considered it an investment.
14 July 2020, 20:24
Slavo Hazucha
Looking at all the results, it's an investment well made 👍
14 July 2020, 20:29

Choppa, be good and ask Santa for a Proxxon Micromot FD 150/E , it goes for less than 500EUR.....you will need to be really good the rest of the year😉
14 July 2020, 20:38
Choppa Nutta
Haha Spanjaard 😄
I just don't think I am capable of being that good for that long !!😉
I am bound to do something to get on the naughty list !! 😄

Yeah Bug, a great investment too and I would love something similar !
A friend of mine got a mini desktop lathe for about £40 recently which is good for wood but I don't think it has the robustness or torque for metal ... and it is quite small ...
but for model making and my budget limitations I think that's the kind of thing I will probably go for.
Currently I use my hand drill strapped to a bench for this kind of job 🙂

MF70 is in my list for some time and KS230 are really tempting....
18 July 2020, 23:48
Slavo Hazucha
Alas, I could not resist putting a bull in front of the KS230... 😄

So plastic, metal and wood are being taken best-possible care of, what about the cloth-parts..?😉
20 July 2020, 11:52
bughunter
Thank you mates! Slavo, for cloth parts, like the HGW seat belts, sharp scissors are enough😉
Added a picture of the photo setup used for final pictures of a model.

my silhouette cameo is my secret weapon. Once I realized I could use it to score styrene everything changed.
25 July 2020, 20:38
Alec K
Zach - what settings do you use on your Silhouette for styrene scoring?
25 July 2020, 22:09
Zach Wilson
it depends on the thickness, I have trouble with .040 and usually need to do multiple passes but .030 and .020 I can usually use a thick vinyl setting.

I received a wonderful handmade Easter gift from my wife! 🙂 No more wasting time looking for the right tubes! 👍
I always hated the searching for the right tube and wire size and mentioned some time ago an idea in that direction, and she realized it now.

Tom ...
Wunderbar and perfect! And it can hang! Love it.

As mentioned in another thread two years after the first the other heavy lamp head of my MAUL working lamps crashed on my bench. Luckily no model was hit, I was not even working there.
We are model makers, aren't we? So today I made two new clamps to get also the second lamp back to working state. Not perfect, but much safer.
