Great fun! (and hilarious reading in the description...). Thumbs up! 🙂

I don't usually comment out-of-my-braille-scale stuff, but this description got me hooked. Pure reading pleasure 🙂

What I do on Tuesdays with my hamster is none of your damned business.

Honestly, this looks great and I like your perspective on things. As far as historical accuracy goes, I say stop building when it stops being fun. Some people enjoy the research and rivet counting, some don't. Sometimes we forget (I am super guilty of this myself) that this is a hobby, and that it probably shouldn't cause us crippling anxiety over historical accuracy.

The googly eye is my favorite thing ever.

If I wouldn't have read the description I would have assumed this was a perfectly legitimate and historically accurate build. We all know they leave out the good stuff in the books! This is the best part of model building here. The fun part! 🙂

I like the windows most! Thanks for the story, Gorby! It put a smile on my face! 🙂

Thanks for your relies mates – they gave me damn good laugh. 👍
Someone on another site that will remain nameless (it's a big British one if your interested) said "Always base your model on actual evidence" to which I replied that I thought it was a hobby rather that a job with social responsibilities. My Roland and it's 'history' is my reaction to that sort of madness.
I've never had a problem if people want to take glueing bits of plastic together seriously, but it doesn't sit well with me telling others that they need to do the same. I've tried being serious about it myself, but I find it so much more entertaining being ridiculous.
If the introduction amused you, there is much more silliness in the build report.
Thanks again - made my day. 🙂

As tribute to this build, I swear to put curtains in at least one window of a future build.

I already included some sort of curtains in my current project, though not that distinct 😄
Fully agree w/Gorby - I don't like whifs too much, but who am I to forbid it?😉

After mentioned twice I have to comment too😉 I found it very nice that my models seemed to serve as inspiration, including animation to create a wooden propeller! And with breaking your unwritten rule you seems to had some fun.
And may be most important: now you REALLY know what it means to build and rig a biplane😎

Thanks for your relies mates – they gave me another good giggle. 🙂
Bughunter: Your WWI crown is safe from me (for a very, very, very, very long time to come) I love the look of the early aircraft and they aren't as difficult to build as I thought (I did choose a simple one) though I don't think there will be any more from me for quite some time – but you're builds are an inspiration mate. 👍
I lost my mojo a bit part way though the build, but then I just decided to have fun, the mojo returned in full.
I wanted to paint little pink bunnies on the curtains, but my painting and my eyesight isn't good enough. 🙁

Thank's very much Spanjaard. 👍 🙂
I forgot to say that I did this build at the start of this year, but only just got around to sorting out the failed album. 🙂

Thanks Tom, that made me laugh. 🙂
That's good idea. I might have to rename the little fish – it previously 'the grinning kipper'.

Yep share your WW1 thoughts, I too steered well clear in my 70s/80s original hobby expeditions of these kits too and would only ever make anything but a kite for the same reasons. Love the post and think the build looks spectacular indeed as does everything else I've just scrolled through on your page too - impressed. I shan't mention an immenent psb concert I'm off to. Ha! Ha!

Not wishing to be a "history nazi", but the curtains aren't as outlandish as you might think:

The googly eye, on the other hand... 😉

Thanks mates. 🙂 👍
Nigel: The curtain decals came with the kit. The googly eyes were an after-market resin detail update set because I wanted to go that extra mile to make it as (in)accurate as possible – very, very expensive, nearly 50p for 50!!!! So I've got plenty more in my googly-eye stash. I wonder what a Stuka would look like with googl……😉

👍 🙂
It certainly won't be, but it may be the last one with wings, at least for quite some time to come. The build I did after this, was a WWI tank. You don't have to rig those.😉

hehe 🙂 rigging those biplanes is a zen like experience - at least for me. If you ever get that craving again, I highly recommend trying something from WnW. They build beautifully. Just saying - no pressure :-D

Album info

Ever since I've been modelling, there has been one unwritten rule – no WWI aircraft. When I was a nipper it was probably because WWI was obviously an inferior world war and not as good as the proper one – I did Top Trumps, I know these things. This time around it has been because of the joint horrors of rigging, and transmuting plastic into wood using only the power of paint.

I've grown up now (mostly) and it's finally time to put those demons to rest.

I'm not a stickler for accuracy, but I usually add extra bits is that I don't like the finished model to look too featureless. No I'm not likely to add a head-up display and a couple of ejector seats (that's an idea), so please don't point out historical irregularities as I may be forced to spread malicious rumours about that hamster you were seen with last Tuesday. The main addition is the wooden prop (channelling my inner Bughunter); the scratch-built fishy anemometer; and the generator – with mini wooden prop.

I decided that I didn't want to slavishly fol
