Duckbills are kind of like track grousers - they are added to the track sides 'ostketten" style for difficult terrain....

Matthias, they are as Julian has said, the allies equal to the German winterketten, but made for mud more than ice, to help in the terrible terrain conditions such as those seen in Winter spring and the rainy season, here's a couple links as to what they look like!

Hi all
My opinion about Um kits is mitigated.
Pros are : number of pieces (203 in this kit when Revell & Italeri M4A1 Shermans have approx 100), PE parts in many models (43 in this one) and ...
Cons are : Price higher than competitors (but more pieces 🙂), Plastic pieces look like old Airfix models and have some small defaults (but when i take a look at Revell they also have some that are far from anecdotic.)
To my knowledge, UM is the only one to propose so many variants of the Sherman chassis in complete kits (from M4 to M12) which can be easily enhanced with other brand shermans (like the Fujimi 1/76 wich provides a very simple copula interior and that i used in my first M4 projects - see album- are the Italeri with the simple engine - see album-)
As far as duckbills in PE are concerned, every time i have a look to the Extratech PE Part i keep on wondering on how long it will be when i will decide to build them 🙂)
Hopefully the Colle 21 cyano will help me not commit suicide 🙂)
Cheers !
