i will be restoring an old Minicraft 1/144 B-26 Marauder i built over 20 years ago. the kit itsself is in decent enough condition to be fixed up and improved. the decals have teared off under the wings and the paint has thinned over the years.

decals will be DIY and sourced from the sparesbox.

at this point, the model is now soaking in grease remover for the next 24 to 48 hours, the paint should be easely removable with an old toothbrush and paper towels (or TP).
this is a cheap, safe, tested and effective way to remove paint.

the name of the degreaser i use is Dasty (i find these at a discount store otside of town), i use a mix of 30% degreaser and 70% water and just let the model soak in it in a closed tupperware box.

Update:

the model was taken out of the degreaser mixture 24 hours later, althought the metallic paint turned matt black and it didnt peel off that easely as with other paints and didnt come off that well. but then, i had an idea, i took home a length of sanding cotton from work (no one's gonna notice its missing) as its not that aggressive as sandpaper. it took a little more effort and patiance, but it did have the result i wanted, the paint came off without loss of detail or scratches from sanding.

however, i hit a big setback, during the removal of the parts prior to sanding, the props broke and are damaged beyond repair, so now i will have to find a pair of replacement 4-blade propellors. in worst case, i will have to try scratchbuilding a set. i also had to drill new holes for the propellor shafts.

Update:

there has been a change of plan, i have recently managed to find a new Marauder kit online, so rather then restoring this old Minicraft kit, im going to replace it with a new one.
