Update: i started with a rough sketch of what would be placed and the size of the building, keeping in mind the limited space i have on the board (salvaged from a scrapped drawer unit).
on the shoppinglist for this project (aircraft not included):
-5 sheets of 1mm thick styrene sheet
-5 sheets of 0.5mm thick styrene sheet (roofs)
-pasticard rods and tubes (rtevetment detailing)
-10 x 30mm wooden strips (for revetment)
-scenic background poster...
the first round of supplies for this project have been ordered, mostly the raw materials but also a few extra's i decided to add, including (for the first time) lighting. ive taken inspiration from Strobez area 88 builds and thought of about trying to add some lighting inside the building and on the tarmac. ive already started drawing up plans on paper for both the hangar and Mc Coys warehouse.
Oh, baby... sign me up! I'm thinking of trying something similar in 1/700... 1/144 scale will be awesome!
the first part of the raw materials for this build have arrived today. all i need to do is wait for the rest to arrive. i also ordered 2 new airbrush guns as my current one broke yesterday, and it was cheaper to buy 2 new guns then to buy replacement parts for the revell basic airbrush.
more parts have arrived. today, the lighting and the railing have arrived. everything i need for the main construction is here, all thats left is to wait for the extra detail parts.
Can't wait to see this come alive, Nils!
althouigh all the materials for this project have arrived, i had to cut some corners or change materials. i was planning on using 10 x 30mm thick wood to place Mc Coy's warehouse on a raised floor, like in the pictures, and make a revetment for the aircraft with the same materials, but i decided to make those parts out of bootlegg lego's and dress them up with styrene strips. result should be somewhat the same and adds the option to make size adjustments on the revetment.
i also started making a rough 1/1 scale sketch of the layout on a piece of A2 size paper (got it for an art project my wife wants to do with the baby). frm what ive see, the reventment needs to be built wider. (13cm wide instead of 10). im almost ready to get this project started, there's just some small details i need to work out.
rough construction of the main buildings is largly done, now comes the detailing, followed by paintwork. i still need to design some additional decals for the interiour and exteriour of the buildings.
the main building with the control tower accidently turned out longer then i designed, but the size of the original design i had planned was a bit too small IMHO.
looking at the size of the buildings, im thinking of dropping the revetment from the diorama, the reason is that the main building with the tower is taking up more space then it should have in the original plan. instead im gonna make a normal flightline parking lot.
also, i just ordered a 75 x 50cm poster of a desert mountain area to act as backdrop.
This is really shaping up nicely!
its been a couple of months since i last made progress, but now im back at it.
ive started with building the antenna section for the control tower. i had some problems getting the parts i needed, but i finally found some usefull parts.

no details as to why?
Five items on my wishlist from Kittyhawk and Panda. I'd better make securing them a priority!

i started this project but im not happy with the way its turning out.
so i have decided to bin the MHM Mig-21PF model for this project, and shift to the Eduard MiG-21bis or -MF.
i still need to design decals for this build.

Cool project - I always wondered, how profitable were helicopter services... Nice to see civilian liveries notwithstanding. Taking a seat🙂
Was Sabena profitable ? It was another time when countries invested into prestige. It was before the finance took over.

okay, got this project started along with another viggen. i have previously built one of these in the past many years ago, and i know the old Crown mould is outdated compared to the more recent Foxone kit. but since i cant afford that, im going to make corrections. first off, i lowered the wing by glueing a 0.5mm piece of plasticard between the wing and the fuselage. i also scrachbuilt a pair of new centerline pylons that will be fitted with a pair of dummy AIM-9 Sidewinders.

with the first A400M for Belgium now in the paintshop, i have started looking into serials & roundel decal designing to supplement the kit's stencil decals.
from what i can see, the font for the titles and serials would be an "RAF Type 1 font" (RAF_PW_ATH, download here http://www.bobsyouruncle.net/font-types.htm )
work is expected to begin as soon as my workbench is clear, should be soon. for the moment, im using the Luxembourg A400 as a reference, as this one will be operated in cooperation with the BAF.
after seeing the new video from airbus, showing the completed Belgian A400M, ive noticed my design for the "Belgian Air Force" titles on the forward fuselage were too big. so i had to shrink them by another 5mm, making them about 32mm long in 144 scale, and those seem to fit alright. serials for the tail seem to be okay to me.
for paint, if i can believe the info from official documents, all A400M's are painted in FS 36173 (which converts to Humbrol 156).
due to shortage of time, the project has been put on hold, but there is some progress prior to the start of the build. last week, the first Belgian A400M arrived just in time for Christmas. with this, new images have appeared of the aircraft. first off, i noticed the 4 of the 6 roundels i sourced from a DACO Spitfire sheet, are too large and are more for a 1/72 version. to replace these, i sourced 4 smaller ones from leftover 1/72 F-16 decals. these appear to be more fitting.
a friend of mine asked me to make a 1/72 version of the Belgian decals, so i decided to print out an extra set for the future 1/72 version aswell. i still need to redesign some of the decals, but scaling up should not be a problem.

Nice! I have been wanting to build the same kit. What camo are you going for?
im going for the standard olive/grey scheme.
Cool, I like the fact that they included a stand
