Ingo F Looks really good mate! And James, if you bring people to the dark side, get them some cookies. :D

M M Haha haha I'm with Ingo! I prefer Chocolate Chip
16. January at 15:17:52
James C Sorry it's beers only guys ;)

Added a black panel wash to bring out some the smaller details then sprayed a clear flat coat over everything to knock back the glossy sheen and begin the weathering process. I'm hoping to get the wheels and tracks installed at some point today.
17. January at 18:42:51
Lode Schildermans James, great work. I like the way how subtle your detailing is. It comes really nice out, wuthout exaggaration. Top
17. January at 21:03:42
James C Cheers for the feedback mate. I appreciate it as I've been trying to tone it down a fair bit these last few builds... but it's so easy to cock it up and be heavy handed etc.

Anyway, I began dirtying up the lower hull around the running gear and finally got the wheels and tracks installed. Still lots left to do but it's great to see how it looks mostly assembled now.
17. January at 23:03:54
Peter Hardy What get's me on board is the bolt painted 3/4 red and 1/4 white. AND at the correct angle. You blow me away Jimbo!!
17. January at 23:10:19
James C Thanks mate, but more luck due to the black wash filling the gaps than skill as my eyes aren't that good aye. Cheers anyway. ;)

Next up is to start dirtying up the road wheels, and after letting the mud on the tracks dry overnight, I'm not all that happy with the colour so need to have a "tutu" whith that as well before starting on the upper hull and turret.
18. January at 18:42:29

James C Many thanks Gerald, glad you like it mate. :)
09. January at 03:19:37
Peter Hardy Nailed the olive green Jimbo. Straight out of the bottle or was a bit of adjustment needed? Anyway, another beauty mate.
09. January at 05:02:56
James C Cheers mate.

The Tamiya olive drab is quite dark straight out of the bottle, so I used yellow as a pre-shader instead of white, then after spraying the base coat, I added a little more yellow to the remaining olive drab in the paint cup to lighten it further still for the hi-lights. ;)
09. January at 19:54:28
Peter Hardy Well it worked a treat! Nailed it as they say!
10. January at 06:21:43
James C Cheers mate. It's one of those colours that's hard to pin down as everyone has there opinion on it lol.
10. January at 06:30:00
Martin Oostrom If everyone has an opinion on the colour, you're entitled to your own ;)
It simply looks great
10. January at 06:45:20
James C Thanks Martin. In the end (after the pre-shading and post shading) the final result was pure luck. Wish I could state otherwise. ;)

05. October 2018 at 15:27:13
James C Thanks Bart, Bryn Jasper and Johne. :) This one was finished back in March and am surprised to see it still being commented on. I'm pretty pleased with the builds I've done this year as I personally think they look much better than all my previous builds. Cheers for the feedback.

Don "The Don" Hi Peter. It is just super to see a project unfold like that. I have been away from modelling for about a month. James's Lang has inspired me enough to take out a stash item. Takom 1/35 Merkava 2b and make a start last night. Annual holidays coming up shortly but I will keep at it. Weathering is my hardest part as too much takes away from the model or messes it up. I have to work on that area big time. Good luck with the mighty Bismark. You have made a very good start. Love the brass.
24. September 2018 at 12:43:39
James C Thanks Jean-Michel, Rui, Johne 69 and Moritz and sorry for the late reply guys. :)
28. September 2018 at 21:13:31
Peter Hardy Don, welcome to the world of mere mortals. Jimbo inspires an awful lot of us. You are not alone there. I put him in the "Master" category of armour modellers. Just awesome build after awesome build. I hate it when Kiwi's excel at something. (Just an Aussie / Kiwi thing). Good luck with the Merkava, any problems don't hesitate to PM ........................ James!

29. September 2018 at 13:05:04
James C Cheers Don and glad I have been of some inspiration. Good luck with the Merkava and post some progress pics when able.
30. September 2018 at 02:42:56
Lode Schildermans I like very much the camo. Do you do intend to do weathering in the future?
03. October 2018 at 20:59:04
James C Thanks mate. I've weathered it about as much as I wanted to.
I could have taken it further, but didn't want it to look too used and abused etc. I guess it's a fine line between too little and too much. On past builds, I've been guilty of over doing it a tad. ;)

Rene Scheiblich That is true. Park an M1 Abrams or Leo2 for 60 years... Not a chance in hell :D

Raimondas Ciuplys Now it's restored and exhibited in Latvia, Daugavpils museum.
13. August 2018 at 15:36:01
Raimondas Ciuplys These guys did a lot of work before restarting the engine. The electric system had to be reinstalled, high-pressure pump needed to be replaced and the aluminium cooling radiators were missing, stolen for metal. All the loose parts also were stolen for scrap metal.
13. August 2018 at 15:44:39
Rene Scheiblich Nonetheless impressive! No major surgery in the inner workings of the engine. Shame about the scavenging... Are you from the area? :)
13. August 2018 at 15:59:03
Raimondas Ciuplys No, I'm from Lithuania. The story was described by the company that had salvaged ISU and in other Russian fora.

Peter Hardy Interesting. Anywhere else in the world it would have been either craned or winched onto a float and taken to a workshop to be stripped down and restored, then, and only then, started.

25. June 2018 at 06:31:05
Dan M Somehow I missed this one! Really nice build and paint job! I do envy your freehand german camo airbrush skills as I can't seem to be able to do anything other than a big mess :)
02. July 2018 at 13:40:53
James C Thanks Dan. :)

I've been trying to get tighter spray patterns and am getting a little better at it. So far I've found setting the compressor at about 10 psi and removing the needle guard from the tip of the airbrush helps a lot. But the tricky part is getting the tip of the needle close to the surface of the model and keeping it at a constant distance while spraying the pattern.
02. July 2018 at 20:06:35
Rene Scheiblich Wow. Mean machine!
The stripes turned out really well. Seems you're ready to do some awesome night fighter camo
Good tip, I tried removing the guard... But the badger 150 won't spray without it... :(
