Dave Morris Another fine finish James :) I was intrigued by the boxes in the stowage bin. You say they are from your spares box, were they from a kit or can you get such things separately?
11. September at 16:09:47
James C Thanks Dave.
The MRE cartons were left over from the paper sheet that's included in Modern U.S. Military Equipment Set (Tamiya 35266, 1:35)

James C I don't recall where I got the other, but was probably on ebay. Just do a search under 1/35 paper cartons and you should be able to turn them up. You can get quite a wide variety from cartons of coke to Heineken beer. :)
11. September at 22:31:54
James C You may also be able to find and print off your own from a Google image search of the same topic.

Rui S Hi Mate,
You pulled it off Greatly. Nice smooth weathered effect as you wanted.
I think for a kit that you pay more or less 20 bucks/euros, the result is Great you could build 2 or 3 Italeri kits instead 1 you know the trend brands...
I love Italeri price/quality ratios.
I'm happy I've helped in some way. Thanks for your words.
Well done

Dan M Hey James, cool project and nice additions but I have to warn you that those tracks are not correct for your version of the Panther, unless you are making an Ausf. D (which was the early Panther, not the A, I know, confusing but the germans started with the D :) )
02. August at 12:52:17
Scott Dutton Nice project, I've also got a panther on the go, rescue kit

Ingo F Nice, i am in.
02. August at 16:09:54
James C This was the first armour kit that I purchased about 3 yrs ago as it was on sale. I've heard it has a lot of inaccuracies, but i'm not too fussed. The zimmerite and tracks etc were purchased ages ago to use on it, but I did not know the tracks were for the D version. Given the other inaccuracies, I doubt it will make much of a difference. Hopefully they will fit as I hate to use rubber band tracks on exposed running gear. I haven't decided yet if I will build this or the type 90 next. :S
03. August at 00:29:09
Dan M Well, regarding the fit hopefully the Tamiya german armour is more accurate than their allied armour in this regard. Their Shermans are notorius for having sprockets that will not fit tracks made by Bronco or others, not without some changes. Same for Academy which is not surprising considering that Academy copies Tamiya stuff. And it's not Bronco's fault, their tracks are actually accurate and they fit perfectly Dragon or Tasca kits.
If they won't fit a solution would be to try to get your hands on some spare sprockets from Dragon. Dragon kits usually have more pieces than you actually use in that build, maybe there are some extra sprockets as they sometime give multiple versions.

25. June at 15:27:50
Dan M Many thanks James for the detailed explanations, I'm gonna try your mud technique.
The beast looks awesome, you can be proud of it. I'm considering getting a JS-2 myself, probably I will opt for the Trumpeter one; now I need to figure out if I want the early war version or the modernized ones (JS-2M, I see they have two of these).
25. June at 15:37:25
James C Thanks for your comments guys. :)

@ Kerry - No plans for it at this stage to go on a dio etc, so for now it sits on the shelf next to the others. I've not entered into competitions before, and probably wouldn't either as it would spoil the fun for me I think.

@ Dan - NP mate, glad I could help. ;)
25. June at 21:54:36
Kerry Cox I enjoy going to the comps. :)
Mostly for the socializing and worn out shoes I come home with, not to mention all the goodies and the severe case of jaw cramps from so much talking. hahahaha :)
Millions of 'hints and tricks' I record on my little hand recorder I have in my pocket, as I hear so much each time I go, I used to forget 99% of them before I got home, but always fun to replay all the natter and comradery that goes on. :)
One time of the year I really look forward to. For sure. :)

Filip Impens I also like your version, less red dirt applied but still a Nice effect. The tracks look great but it seems a lot of work!
09. April at 22:11:05
Luis Miguel Garcia I have the same model stored in a drawer three years ago. The assembly of the tracks is a real torture.
When I saw your model finished, you encouraged me to finish it too. Congratulations for your patience. Good job!!
12. April at 11:47:56

26. March at 07:42:07
Rui S I agree, there's always a first time...
26. March at 13:44:56
Scott Dutton Great job, love the weathering, the weld seams, and running gear in particular. Can I suggest adding a figure on deck somewhere to emphasize the size of that turret.
26. March at 15:31:52
James C Cheers Markus, Rui and Scott. I really appreciate your comments and feedback.
I've avoided adding figures as my detail painting is not the best and I feel that a poorly painted figure will only detract from the model itself.
For the same reason I've not had a go at creating a diorama, although I have been tempted to cheat and get one of the pre-made landscapes with the grass and shrubs already in place. ;) But, never say never. I may explore it in the future. Thanks again guys. :)

03. March at 07:09:48
Rui S @ Useless maybe, but the Germans also used some captured ones (as usual).

James C Many thanks Dan, Gary and Dave. Much appreciated.

@ Dan... Just do it mate. It's a really simple build and looks good once assembled. Has big flat surfaces with which to practice painting as well. It already has the PE grills. No need to look else where for a metal barrel as the kit parts clean up fine. Go for it mate! ;)
25. February at 01:28:22
James C I finished it off this morning.
The only issues I had were the very delicate tow cables which took a lot of care to remove from the sprues without breaking, and the decals. I've never had a problem with Tamiya decals in the past, but for some reason I had a lot of difficulty getting these to adhere without using a lot of micro set. Even then I've still ended up with a bit of silvering. Otherwise a very enjoyable kit to build right from the box.
