2012 Corvette Convertible C6 - wip

Album image #1
The candidates for the build.

Album image #2
The plan is only to keep the convertible body of theAMT kit and put it over the Revell kit

Album image #3
Who wants to take a look under that body (white)? You see what I mean.

Album image #4
After some cutting and sanding, the parts in the way for the new Chassis are gone.

Album image #5
The "under the hood hood" is gone.

Album image #6
It's astonishing, how good the interior fits! Remember: only the body is AMT. The rest is Revell.

Album image #7
The inner wheelhouse fits perfect in it's dimensions!

Album image #8
Also the interior of the engine compartment. Without any pressure!

Album image #9
Chassis? Piece of cake 😎

Album image #10
The only missfitting is the rear underthing. A little to short. But take a look to the stand of the wheel. Incredible.

Album image #11
A small gap to the wheelhouse / rockerpanel.

Album image #12
If only the wholes weren't there for the screws I'd take the rear part of the AMT kit. Let's think this over.

Album image #13
Doublecheck the other way: AMT into Revell 😉

Album image #14
I decided to drill out the holes of the rear Lights to use the nicer lights of the Revell Corvette. a) they have a nicer texture b) they are tinted red already

Album image #15
Some cutting and glueing. Preparing the components for painting.

Album image #16
Always interesting, how the Revell chassis fits under the AMT body

Album image #17
Also under the hood.

Album image #18
The filler is done

Album image #19
Some parts are painted.

Album image #20
Base color is painted.

Album image #21
Mostly parts are painted too.

Album image #23
Clear coat day 🙂

Album image #24
The second layer of clear coat is done.

Album image #25
Engine compartment is done.

Album image #26
Chassis is done too.

Album image #27
Body is ready for mounting onto the chassis.

Album image #28
I'm not satisfied with the stance of the front wheels. On the left side it's pretty cool lowered but the wheel is to much to the rear. It touches the inner fender.
On the right side it is to high at all.

No picture so far.
I glued on the front and rear bumper. At the rear I need some work because the bumper is tiny wider than the body. I checked the fitting of all the components again and declare: it is ready to paint.

Interesting. A lot of the new Italeri kits do not have engines

Nigel: I didn't see new car kit many years. They have Fujimi (new Fiat 500), old Protar and old Esci kits.

That might explain things thanks Istvan.

If there is "Showroomreplica" written on AMT / ERTL boxes, the kit doesn't have an engine too. In early years the manufacturers called them "Promos" 😉
I avoid them generally. But in this case I bought it because the kit by Revell (also only as snap kit: Corvette C6 Convertible (Revell 85-1950, 1:25) or 2005 Corvette C6 Convertible (Revell 85-1930, 1:25)) weren't available anywhere.

That the things under the body are fitting that good under the body was a positive try.

I've fortunately only come across a few kits without engine detail. Over the years, I think I've ended up with three kits, not realizing until I opened the box that they were basic. These were a BMW 3 series, a Williams F1, and a Lancia Stratos which has the low detail top and bottom plate style engine. I've intentionally bought a couple of others despite the low detail because of limited choice for the Subject, the Italeri Transit, A Capri Turbo, and the Italeri Volvo 760. I've also got a few die casts that I plan to upgrade the engine bay on. Having some success with taking a resin mould from a kit engine, I'm reviewing the engines in every kit in my stash as masters. So far, I have identified Big & Small block chevys and fords, Ford Pinto 4 pot, Ford V6 that will pass for an essex or cologne. i also have a hemi and a good selection of blowers and injection manifolds. I'm now looking for a good late LS pattern, but I want one with the transmission up front.

Thank you!

Some steps further to the end. Today was paint day. The body needs clear coat and I can put it together.

It is nearly completed. I have to adjust the front wheels.

Album info

This will be a kitbashing. I only have the "showroom replica" by AMT. It could be fine only to put it in the shelf when it's done. But I don't want to miss to show an engine or the detailed undercarriage when there is a need to. So I figured out that the proportions of the AMT is exactly fitting to the good Revell kit. So I got a donor kit of Revell where the body is painted yellow by hand with a brush :/ The rest of the kit is untouched.

So that's the plan:
Take the body of the AMT, cut out the right hole for the engine compartment and put all the Revell parts under the body. We will see how this works out 🙂
