Hanno KleineckeI only had the choice between several evils, so I decided for the bow to be fitted best, and to work on the rest until It was somewhere near to satisfying. The internal spars will be covered by floorboards, partly so that will be no problem. The gaps wont be visible anymore. Primed the the outside hull in the meantime,
and did some more sanding, slowly improving.....
I was really thrilled about this Kit at first, but as it turns out, it has a very great deal of flaws.
Nevertheless, challenging !!😢

Hanno KleineckeNew pictures added. The Engines are not really accurate, I`m thinkin of cutting off the air intakes (?) at the back.That`ll give me more room for the exhaust pipes .

Hanno KleineckeTja Acki, der Kit ist schon interessant weil er einiges an Interieur mitbringt. Es braucht aber einiges an Aufwand
weil nachlässig recherchiert. Aber er bietet einige gute Möglichkeiten . Deine Holztechnik werde ich demnächst am Deck zur Anwendung bringen, das Lifecolor Set ist soeben eingetroffen. Werde erstmal an nem Stück Sheet üben.

Hanno KleineckeChristian, i had lot of practice recently, I tell you. Lots of sweat moans and very foul language. I still have no Idea why the steps inside of the rail had to be furnished as single parts in the kit. Fortunately the gun is finished so I can move on to something less microscopic. Somehow the 1 cent coins are a lot bigger in my part of germany ...... Strange enough . 😄

Christian BruerHi Hanno, just notice you nicely painted deck. One note about the color, seems to be a little bit dark. The boat saw service in the Med and the wooden deck would be more bleached of the sun - what do you think?

Hanno KleineckeThanks Christian, you're right, it turned out to be a little bit of a "brick". But these decks were never left unpainted. Its only going to shine through the grey, that will be sprayed on top of layers of gloss clear and scratch, after weathering. I saw Pictures of a finnish MAS which had a glossy varnished wooden deck,
but the pictures of the italians I was able to find always show light or dark grey decks. So the wood wasn't really exposed to sunlight and salt water.

Kerry COXI am going to confuse the issue here and ask. What type of wood would have been used and would the 'finish' be representative of 'boards' or 'sheet'(as in ply wood) decking. ?

Hanno KleineckeI was'nt able to find a lot of reference material about these boats, but from what I saw these decks were planked
with either Mahoganny or Oak. These grand old boatyards in Venice obviously built them so beautifully crafted like the wooden boats you can still see on the Canale Grande today. I put a picture into the Album.

Ben STONENot sure it's much help but teak is used a lot on decks but I doubt it would've during the war due to lack of supply. I haven't come across an oak deck before but Baltic pine is also used a lot in Europe.

Hanno KleineckeDeck and Cockpit almost finished. Cockpit apart from Engine controls had to be scratchbuilt, not furnished in the kit. The deck will be weathered slightly by scratching and maybe washing. Slowly getting there...
Might be finished within the next two weeks..

Hanno KleineckeHere is the finished M A S in 1/72 nd. This kit is a real crappy one .Can' t recommend it at all, almost every part is to raw or has to be scratchbuilt or improved. Nevertheless I learned a lot and , considering the very poor overall quatlity I ' m fine with it. I hope you like it too.

Kerry COXI am just so impressed with the work you have put into this model over the period of time we have all been watching your build.
If you didn't walk away with "Best in Show" with this beauty, I would be most disappointed.
Everything I look at speaks of patience and lots of research.
Attention to detail.
That is one thing I say to all modellers, ATD, as it will tell the story for you without you uttering one word.
You should be the proudest guy in the world right now.
I love it.

Very nice work. At first I tought - why it is so messy in some places and stuff, the scale should be pretty big... and then I realised it's 1/72, damn man, that deck gun is terrific! Love this! Shame that you needed to paint the whole beautiful deck, looked good in natural wood. But you've gained the really nice ship-metal effect. Like reall really thick, a bit dirty and glossy paintwork, perfect! 🙂

Album info
Crappy Kit, almost every part warped or off scale,or badly casted.
Very few parts that didn´t have to be scratch-improved or completely
scratched....
Fit is poor on amost every part, so this one promises to be a lot of work.
Not really recommendable.........
