BOOOOM! Michael my hat's off to you, first and foremost building such a dog of a kit no matter who sez what (fuselage of 6+ parts, stupid intake design, stupid mlg desing, etc etc come on...) into something like this should be commended in our hobby before anything else. as for the camo, making grey not boring yet keeping things subtle is whole another thing i admire here. i've been following this build since the beginning but folks have probably said it all before me so i've got nothing else to add here except big huge respect. 🙂 👍 👍 👍

Michael Phillips
Thanks so much for the very kind words Murad! I am really pleased to have everyone following along with my work. I hope that in some ways I can inspire others and offer advice based on what I have learned as I go. I know when I got started two years ago I was happy to have people help me, so to be able to give back gives me tremendous satisfaction.

Mike, this bird is a Russian built Sukhoi. The Su-22M4 is the export variant of the Russian domestic Su-17M4, as one of the Warsaw Pact countries of the cold war, it used Russian hardware. Today, the Polish Air Force still flies this and the mig-29, but also flies one of the most advanced variants of the American F-16.

Kurt Reichert
Hello Michael! Congratulation, your Polish Fitter is a feast for the eyes. Excellent work!!!
24 July 2017, 10:56
Mike Daniels
Thanks for the info Michael. That explains the 'Mig' look. I guess Mig and Sukhoi grew out of the same stable? I will look into that. Very distinctive planes.

Mind you, isn't it a problem now for the Polish Air Force to get spares ?
24 July 2017, 11:48
Łukasz Gliński
Of course it is Mike, that's why their amount is quickly decreasing...

So many right things have been said about your build. All I can add is that she looks so beautiful from every angle. I'm more the helicopter guy but this would be a nice part to my showcase. Thank you for your inspiration.

Great job especially painting, weathering and metal finish of the engine. I'm glad twice that you choice was a polish plane. 🙂
15 October 2017, 07:09
Kerry COX
I should have mentioned that the discolouration of the tail pipe metal is most convincing, and not easy to do Michael. really impressive mate. 👍 I'd like to see you do your magic on an F-100 Super Sabre and all the colours it has on the tail end. :-O Yes. ?? hehehe

Very nice paintwork, Michael, another real beauty for the display case.
15 October 2017, 07:48
Michael Phillips
Thanks Kees, Bernhard, Bernd, Kerry, and Thomas! You guys really make me proud and honored to have such great modelers compliment my work.

Kerry, that looks fun! Look at those hues! Hmmm, I don't think I even have a HUN in my stash. Which kit is the best of this beast in 48th?
16 October 2017, 04:15
Michael Hickey
Nicely done.👍
16 October 2017, 04:48
Kerry COX
Michael. I have been hunting around for an F-100 SS and Trumpeter have one out in 1/48, and in Thunderbirds livery too. Monogram had one out a few years back, but I get the feeling Trumpeter got that old die and cleaned it up a bit. Titanium is the metal the whole back end of those 'Century' series birds had and it threw up all kinds of delicious colours and hues, and the F-100 was the best I ever saw for the effect. I have seen a lot of attempts, but not too many have been able to capture that lovely metal finish, but I rekon you could make a good job of it.
CHALLENGE. !!! 🙂 🙂 🙂
16 October 2017, 06:33
Przemek Przybulewski
Very nice, I really love it.
16 October 2017, 06:44
Michael Phillips
Thanks Michael, Kerry, and Przemek!

Kerry, I saw Danumurthi recently did a HUN and really nailed the heat-stressing on that, so that would be my aspiration to attain. It definitely will be quite a challenge!
16 October 2017, 12:59
Kerry COX
I just had a look at his album too just then and your right about the 'nailing' of the look of heat affected titanium. Sensational. 👍.
It looks photographic almost.
I have bookmarked it for my reference section, but the after market items are a limiting factor to me. But oh well. 👍 And thanks for the link too. 🙂

John Hoffmann
All your stuff is superlative, but this one might be my favorite. To me the Fitter epitomizes Russian design of the era and you've captured that beautifully. Not to mention the credit deserved for getting to the end with all the various pointy, pokey, dicey, and slicey parts still attached!

Kerry COX
I know Kitty Hawk produce some great models, but the result here is as good as it gets when you come up with a result like this. Truly inspiring. I love it. 🙂 🙂 🙂 👍 👍
26 April 2018, 20:49
Michael Phillips
Thanks John and and Kerry! Your kind words are truly appreciated. This was a fun kit to build despite it's shortcomings and questionable engineering in places.
27 April 2018, 03:07
Clifford Keesler
Beatiful model Michael, you did an outstanding job. Well done mate.
28 April 2018, 22:58

Yes. You have captured the essence of this bird in the weathering and general 'ware and tare'.
Most impressive indeed. 👍 🙂

15 January 2019, 21:30
Tim Heimer
And another beautiful piece to your collection Michael! Nice!
15 January 2019, 22:42
