Hehe, welcome on board mate. This one will be my last project of 2018 and the first one where i have to scratchbuild many parts.
Its a kitbash of Hobby Boss "Strv 122" and Tamiyas Leopard 2A6.
The work done so far:
- Replaced the rear plate with the one from Hobby Boss kit
- Closed the gap with a 0,5 mm plastic card strip as the Hobby Boss part is 0,5-0,6mm too short.
- The "ribs" that are going from the rear plate to the grilles were extended as they are also too short.
- The exhaust outlets were cut open and replaced with pe parts
- Grab handles were added/replaced
- Convoy shield was moved from the centre to the left side
- The two circular hatches on the lower part were rebuild from plastic card as the kit parts are oval and not round and also lacks details.

Just forgot to mention that i am using the build of Chris Jerret as an inspiration and guide for this project.

After four days and about 15-18 hours i managed to complete the hull. 🙂
Now i am moving to the turret where the real fun beginns. 😄
This are the modifications and corrections that were done so far:
- Tow cables were replaced
- Reshaped the shovels as they are different from the german ones and the parts from the Strv kit
- Front armor received anti-slip surface as the origina part had none.
- "Position lights" were replaced with the parts from Tamiya.
- Protection for the head lights were made from wire as the PE parts from the HB kit are too thin and flat.
- The three reflectors on the front armor were rebuid from plastic card and wire. The PE parts from the Strv kit were also too thin.
- Bolts were added to the side of the driver hatch
- The tow hooks were relocated and are from Tamiya kit. Welding seams are made from Green Stuff.
- Front mudguards are made from the leftovers of the rubber parts of the rear mudguards.
- The front part of the side skirts was replaced with the parts from the Strv kit as it is a little bit different from the original german part. Unfortunately HB made a mistake and this part is to small. Therefore i had to glue a piece of 0,8 plastic card and sand it down to the right shape.

Thats all for now. The turret will have much more of the parts removed/added and reshaped. 🙂

Completed the stowage boxes and the smoke discharger today. Took me about two days just to improve the rear stowage boxes. After i had some issues with the fitting of the turret, i was almost at the point where i was going to bin the whole project but decided to give it a last try. The first try on the stowage box (picture 40) was not good and wrong so i rebuild it again.
After a while it started to be fun after i added one detail after another to the poorly detailed kit part.
Next part will be the periscope and the tarps for the turret hatches.

After three weeks and countless hours of building, fun, cursing, raging and glueing, i was able to complete this one. It was a new experience for me to do an kit bash and scratchbuild such amount of details. but it was fun and i am definitely going to do something like this in the future. 🙂

Thanks guys.
@Patrick: I asked that myself. 😄
@Dan N: I used Hull Tex from VMS - vms-supplies.com/vms-hull-tex
Very good product for anti-slip surface and very easy to handle.

Thank you mate. 🙂 At first i was afraid to do the camo as i was not sure if all the lines will be straight.
In the end it was really fun to do this camo.
The light green color is much brighter in real but it will be dull after a coat of varnish and filter/washes/oils.

🙂
I like that green! And in all the reference pictures it can have so many hues but still be recognizable as Swedish light green.

Who ever is interested in the color i used:
Base: NATO Green XF-67 Tamiya
Light green: AK3063 - Waffen Spring/Summer Light Green Spots
Black: Nato Black XF-69 Tamiya

Finished this one. Was hell of a work with all the scratchbuild but i must say it was the project where i had the most fun. 🙂 Looking forward for my next Leo 2 project. The next one will be Lopard 2A5DK or the 2A7 (Mod. 2016).

It really looks awesome! I especially like the subtle scratches on the side. Not overdone but very true to the typical weathering one can find on the earthbound space ships.
