Oh Yeah, love this one, mine rollers as well?
13 July 2018, 07:19
Ingo F
Not sure, but i guess not. I dont like mine rollers and dozers on tanks. 🙁

Eric RENOUX
Godd job
13 July 2018, 07:41
Ingo F
Thanks Eric. Its just the beginning. 🙂 This one got 1300 pieces and many small PE parts. But i am happy that the tracks are made from one part per link. Not much of cleaning work. Somehow its relaxing but on the other hand a little bit boring. I am used to build tracks with 400-600 parts. 😄
13 July 2018, 07:47
Eric RENOUX
I wanted to write good luck, as this kit as a lot of small parts and is not an easy kit. I'll follow your build.

Cool, new T-72, watching 🙂

Take a seat mate. 🙂

But only nearly. 😄 Welcome on board.

I think if i build one or two more of Trumpeters T-72 or T-90, i will be able to build the ower hull with my eyes closed. 😄
Took me about 2 hours to finish one side skirt as you need 91 parts for it.
15 July 2018, 18:12
Dan M
Wow, 91 parts! Now that's some high detailing. Or some over-engineering Trumpeter-style 😛
15 July 2018, 18:47
Ingo F
I would say high detailing. Every ERA block is a single part and therefore the side skirt looks more realistic with all the blocks a little bit uneven.

Thank you James. 🙂
No problem mate. This is how i assemble Trumpeter single link tracks:
First off all you need some good music or maybe some interesting historical documentation. This is necessary or you gona insane while cleaning up the tracks. 😄
First step is to remove all the needed tracks from the sprue. I do it separate for each side. To store the tracks i use disposable 0,2 cl vodka plastic jars. Belive me, they are only for modeling, no drinking. 😄
The T-90 links are made from two parts, single link track and guide horn. Therefore you will need 4 jars.
After all the tracks are removed from the sprue, i start with cleaning them up. Its better to use a sharp hobby knife to remove the attachment points then to sand them off. The area won't be visibe in the end.
You can remove the guide horns from the sprue with a side cutter. If you cut it right under the part, you don't need to clean them up.
After you managed to clean all the parts you can start gluing the guide horns to the tracks. You can directly put the tracks together. After you have glued the last guide horn, you already will have a complete track run on your desk.
I use Tamiya extra thin cement for my models. You just need to brush the glue over the tracks. I do it on the inside and outside of the run. After you finished it you need to let the glue set for about 7-10 minutes.
You can test it by picking up the track run from the desk or check if the glue it not sticky anmore.
Now you just need to wrap the track run around the wheels, idler wheel and sprocket.
I always mount the tracks from the underneath so the connection point is above.
Let the tracks set over the night.
Thats all. Hope it will help.

Here an update for you guys. Hull is completed and i am working on the turret right now. Was really fun to glue all the 95 small PE circles. 😄

You missed one, only 94 there, now find the missing one.....
23 July 2018, 21:38

Thank you James. I tried to use the metal barrel but had some trouble with the small PE parts that goes around it. They fell of after an half hour or at every light touch. 🙁
Tried to sand the barrel and the parts but it didnt work.
I might try to solder them and use the gun on the next T-72 build. 😄
I decided not to start a new project while painting and weathering this one.
Instead i will try out a few things like soldering, scratchbuilding and improve my figure painting skill. 🙂
27 July 2018, 21:32
Scott Dutton
Not used metal barrel myself, but have one, tip I can give as electronic engineer is soldering goes much better with flux and well tinned soldering iron tip to aid in heat transfer

Thank you for the hint Scott. 🙂

Looking so great! Camo will be overall-green?
29 July 2018, 18:20
Ingo F
Thank you Jan. Yes color will be overall green. Will upload the pictures in a few minutes. 🙂
29 July 2018, 18:31
Ingo F
Here we go guys. Base color was done with Mr. Paint MRP 273 Soviet Protective Green KhV518. Used this brand for the first time but definitely not the last one. Very nice paint. 👍
Color modulation was done with a varity of green colors from A.Mig. I wanted to break this boring uniform look of this great beast. 😄
29 July 2018, 18:41
Ingo F
Thank you mate. 🙂 Could not hold two days without building anything. 😄 Started my new project already. Main project will still be this one as i am going to add a couple of figures to the tank. 🙂

Scott Dutton
Ural 4320 new project?
29 July 2018, 20:51
Ingo F
Yes Scott.
The Ural kit was sitting in my stash for years and i was not sure how to buid it, oob or scratchbuild the house body for it. Few days ago i got my hands on a cheap BRDM-2 and decided to build Ural Broom, an unusual version of Ural in Afghanistan.
Ural got a very nice engine and the BRDM-2 an full interior. I was thinking to try out and build an small diorama. With all the doors and engine hood open. Something like checking the gear and loading up before a mission. 🙂

Patrick Hagelstein
Hi Ingo, that's a nice looking T-72! I'm wondering, are you using Mr. Paint in conjunction with mig acrylics or are those different layers?
29 July 2018, 21:19
Ingo F
Thank you Patrick. 🙂
This are different layers. Mr. Paint is acrylic lacquer and therefore it is not possible to mix it with paints like Vallejo Model Air. I tried out to add a few drops of model air white to this paint. In the end i had the original paint with small lumps of white paint. 🙁
29 July 2018, 21:37
Patrick Hagelstein
I know! That's why I was wondering. 😉 I really love the Mr. Paint range and am changing over entirely.
29 July 2018, 21:42
Ingo F
Did a little bit of weathering on the tank to break the unifor green and add more depth to the color modulation. Thinking of adding little bit of chipping and scratches. Not much as this one will be an tank during some routine exercise not during a war. Rainmarks and pigments to the lower hull.

Where is the crew from ? Nice job painting your figures !
23 August 2018, 06:29
Ingo F
Thank you Eric. The figures are from scalemates.com/kits/974770-e..ures-em-35115-t-72-tank-crew.
I will only use two of them as i decided to use the figures in the middle of the painting process an the driver hatch was already closed.

Soeren R.
Fantastic work on the figures so far.
23 August 2018, 07:35
Ingo F
Thank you Sören. Did a little bit of painting yesterday on boots, gloves and fur collar (?). Now only the face and helmet are missing. Will wait until the weekend as i need sunlight and more time for the face. Cant do that in the evening.
