This is a build of firsts for me: 1st american subject in a long time, 1st time an american paint scheme ever(!), 1st time use of Mission Models paint (the only Dark sea blue I could get hold of...)
So how does it go?! The kit itself is naturally great (....Tamiya 🙂 ). I am still undecided when it comes to the Mission Models paint....I guess I need some additional practice with it. I did however notice that the Darks sea blue appears to be much lighter in shade than the actual colour would be?! ....first world problems I suppose 😉 I am actually quiet happy with the result so far, but I also can't wait apply the orange fuselage band soon.

ChristianI used the Mission Models Dark Sea blue to paint an F6F-5, and it went on lighter than I expected. However, after applying a coat or two of Mr. Color GX100 gloss, the finish darkened appreciably, and was closer to what I was looking for. I also used Tamiya's XF-17 Sea Blue to finish an SBD-5, and I was equally pleased with the final result.

Sebastian MeynerToday I added some minor scratches ising water colour pencils and applied the gloss coat. The weathering was kept to a minmum since I assume that a reserve unit would spend more time on maintainance than on actual flying.
