Album info

This aircraft carried paratroopers of 2nd and 3rd Battalion Parachute Regiment 506, the famous "Band of Brothers". It operated from English Upottery airport, bound for the launch area "C" in
Day D. It was piloted by Lt. Col. Charles H. Young, leader of the 11th wave, consisting of 45 airplanes in formation of "V of Vs", so was given an "chalk mark" with the # 1. This phase of the Operation Overlord was called "Operation Neptune" and the mission that corresponded to the 101 was called "Mission Albany", anticipating the launch time of the paratroopers at the 0114hour on D-Day.
