World War Toons Tiger I by Meng

Album image #1
Very fun build. Used wire rods through the side hull wall to push down the tracks, as all they are is rubber band kit tracks. If you look close, you can see the end of the wire between the drive sprocket and first wheel above the tacks. It looks like a little dot.

Everything off the sprue, ready to go.

Album image #3
The Meng Toon tank is a Paint Mule for the Tamiya Tiger I kit #35216. Removed the port/left side fender on both models.

Album image #4
Primed and ready to go. Battle damage & torch marks made using a drill bit, putty, Dremel tool & soldering iron. Just having fun and making it more interesting while testing out skills.

Album image #5
Build a small stand out of steel and a bolt to use for painting. Super glue a hex nut on the bottom of the kit to attach.

Album image #6
On the tiger tanks, the barrel has four small bolts recessed so I added it to the kit barrel.

Work bench with some of the products used on the build.

For some reason, decided to paint the barrel flat black, and add gloss black near the front. Was this a vain attempt to replicate some sort of recoil, can't remember.

Album image #10
Used Lion Roar WWII German AFV stencils, (LAM0001) to paint all the markings. Again, fun little adventure, and happy with most of the results. Better than decals if it comes out right.

Will have to work on the vision glass, it really is not where I think it should of ended up. Again, great to test thing on the toon tank.

Album image #13
Just a lot of dust and rust on the weathering, so it shows more of a urban battle ground vs a rural environment. Buddy cast some 1/48 scale bricks so may use them to add to the tank. They have to be painted and weathered first to match.

Album image #14
Removed starboard/right side fender, could have made it better looking.

Album image #15
Happy how the port side missing fender paint came out. Used styrene to scratch build the four fender bracket bolt supports.

Album image #16
Model tipped up on a set of Friulmodel 1/35 tracks for a future project.

All that effort, weathering and wear-and-tear on this little toon tank is impressive and turns heads. Very nice.

Good Evening, Thanks chaps for the comments and encouragement. Like a lot of us, I struggle with finishing projects, as it seems that its so easy to over think the results. Catch Ya, Logan

I think this is the first time I see such good weathering and paint job on a toon tank!
That´s great like it!

Good Afternoon, Simon Happy You found some enjoyment it the Toon Tiger. Experienced my first IPMS USA Nationals in Omaha last Summer and not being a full fledged modeller to the level that would be at the Nationals but thought I should enter something, I entered it. The Toon Tank was just a paint mule for a 1/35 Tamiya Tiger I Panzerkampfwagen VI that I was building. Having entered it, it probably inspired others to bring sub-par kits to the event. We have to enjoy life and modelling makes it that much better, even if we are not up to the caliber of the Nationals. Catch Ya, Logan

These things are so much fun to build up and go to town on the finish. Looks great!

Album info

Interesting build for a Paint Mule. Even as a paint mule, the urge to go a little further is always present. The Tamiya Tiger was missing its port/left side fender, so the Toon Tiger had to be missing it's.
