Thank you John 🙂

Today I realized that the center hard point for the MER bomb rack is not included in the kit- I have to find a solution🤔
19 December 2016, 16:24
Clifford Keesler
I think they make a resin center line rack for it.
20 December 2016, 18:01

I´ve painted the underside with Vallejo 71.121 FS36622 and started with the first layer of USAF Brown 71.125 as seen in the picture above
next step is a layer of green camo

Stephan Ryll
Thank you gents, 🙂

SEA camo is on - hope you like it

next step a coat of gloss
12 February 2017, 12:22
Christian Bruer
Hi Stephan, nice result. What Vallejo colour no. do you use for the green? By the way, the demarcation lines are really sharp and exact along the wavy lines. Do you use Tamiya masking tape or other stuff to mask it?!
Cheers, Christian
12 February 2017, 12:33
Stephan Ryll
Hi Christian,
thank you for your comment 🙂
I used 71.022 as the light green and 71.124 as dark green -that combination gave the best visual result to me
For masking I used Blue tac or pata fix and covered the painted areas with towel - that's cheaper than tamyia tape😉 and you have more control about the sharpness of the wavy lines by using more or less paint on that border areas
12 February 2017, 13:10
Stephan Ryll
The decals which were included are on 🙂
the instructions for the decals were sometimes unclear, some of the shown decals were not on the sheet and some were covered with tape 🙁
but so far I´m happy with the result 🙂
19 February 2017, 16:21
Clifford Keesler
Coming along nicely.
23 February 2017, 17:13
Stephan Ryll
Thank you Clifford,

that gives me some motivation to get to the finish line - 🙂

this weeks progress

she´s on her wheels now - I did the panel lines

The Launcher for the AIM-9B and the missiles, the ECM POD and the external fuel tanks are finished and ready to go

but still a lot of work to be done...
24 February 2017, 15:55
Eugen P.
NiceThud 👍
24 February 2017, 19:40
Stephan Ryll
Thank´s Eugen, much appreciated. 🙂

today´s progress
added the external stores, added a few clear parts, added the air brakes, removed the mask from the cockpit
added the final parts for the landing gear and gave the hole thing a semi matt finish

next step is a final wash and the base plate
25 February 2017, 16:14

26 February 2017, 07:19
arne vd burg
Very nice. I got this one in my stash,i will use yours as a reference.
26 February 2017, 13:07
Choppa Nutta
a touch too glossy but nice work ! 🙂
26 February 2017, 13:59
Stephan Ryll
Thank you Arne very Kind from you 🙂

Thank's Choppa 🙂 I used semi matt als final coat - the next one will be in matt finish
26 February 2017, 15:33
Thomas Bischoff
Stephan, which semi matt paint did you use?
26 February 2017, 15:43
gorby
Stunning work Stephan!
26 February 2017, 16:06
Choppa Nutta
I think full matt finish for clothes on the figures but for the battle worn aircraft it just needs to be a touch less glossy overall, at least in my humble opinion, though this sort of thing is very subjective of course.
But overall your work presents well 👍 🙂
26 February 2017, 16:41
Stephan Ryll
@ Thomas -I used 70.522 from Vallejo

@ gorbygould - thank you much appreciated 🙂
26 February 2017, 16:55
Stephan Ryll
Yes Choppa I'm with you the figure is too glossy I missed that and will correct this 🙂
26 February 2017, 16:57
Choppa Nutta
easy fix though 🙂
26 February 2017, 17:25
Stephan Ryll
Thank you Chopper your comments are always much appreciated 🙂
26 February 2017, 17:34
Christian Bruer
Excellent work and finish 👍 Stephan, how do you apply the Vallejo Acrylic Resin varnish? I always have trouble with their new formula varnishes. The varnish get a greyish effect when applied although I use Vallejo thinner.
TIA
Cheers, Christian!
26 February 2017, 18:22
Stephan Ryll
Thank you Christian for your kind comment 🙂
I always use a very thin layer of that varnish
Then I let it dry for one day - check the result and may do a second layer
If you use to much in the first layer it's getting greyish as you mentioned before
May you can check your airbrush pressure- I use 0.9 bar and 0.5 needle with my Iwata 🙂
26 February 2017, 18:45
Christian Bruer
Mmmh, I use a Gabbert Triplex with nearly the same pressure but a 0,25mm needle. What you mentioned about just one thinn layer is interesting. I sprayed several thin layers one after another. So I understand you had the same problem with the varnish getting greyish but solved it by applying just one thinn layer first and let it completely dry before you add more layers.
I guess I will give it a try. If not I will stay with Windsor&Newton matt and semi gloss varnish.
Thx for your kind support😉
26 February 2017, 19:37
Stephan Ryll
You're always welcome Christian 🙂
Hope it will bring you to a good result.
26 February 2017, 19:42
Thomas Bischoff
Stephan: you use the same paint as I just used on the Catalina but in my case the finish was too matt and no gloss at all.
27 February 2017, 19:14
Stephan Ryll
Thank you Thomas for your comment 🙂
This is very intresting - I also used a drop of flow improver and Vallejo thinner like you but my result was not satin but more glossy - 🤔
I will check if I used the wrong refill bottle.
27 February 2017, 19:41
Choppa Nutta
I find using an oil wash over a glossy surface helps to dull the surface down in a progressive manner so you can tweak the glossiness progressively whilst adding a subtle dirt layer, I know some people use a fine sand paper and rub in cigarette ash afterwards, lots of ways to play with this satin effect.

One thing I have seen that I think is effective is having some panels glossier or matter than others as it makes the model look like it has been assembled from separate parts as per the real planes etc.
anyhow, just a thought 🙂
27 February 2017, 20:06
Stephan Ryll
Thank you Choppa for your indications - I will test them on my next victim😉 which uses the same camo
27 February 2017, 20:22
Choppa Nutta
... "my next victim" !! haha 😄
will you be changing your name to Dexter ? 😄 😄 😄
27 February 2017, 20:49
Stephan Ryll
No Choppa, I won't 😉 the next victim is a F-105 G Wild Weasel - so I will use some of your tips🙂
27 February 2017, 20:55
Choppa Nutta
I look forward to seeing how it works out 🙂
btw, I gotta say what a great show Dexter is, I'm enjoying watching it again and when you mentioned victim it was difficult for me not to think of that show 😄
I'm renaming my bench the slab and my shed the kill room, given how many models I have destroyed over the years haha 😄

btw. have you seen Dexter yet ?
not relevant at all I know but hey, it amused me 😄
27 February 2017, 21:11
Clifford Keesler
It looks nice Stephan.
28 February 2017, 00:13
Ulf Petersen
Nice bird, Stephan!👍
28 February 2017, 06:48
Stephan Ryll
Choppa, I will do my very best to work out your tips

When I was younger my "kill rate " was much higher "lol"
Never saw Dexter - I used to work on my victims😉
28 February 2017, 08:26
Stephan Ryll
Thank you Clifford and Ulf, 🙂
Much appreciated
