Spanjaard. Be patient with me on this one mate. 🙂 , as I am the sort of bloke who drops one project in favour of an other part done project when the inspiration and ideas come flooding back on something you have grand ideas for, and this particular build has had my imagination going wild, especially as all the internals scream to be seen. 🙂
The first TAKOM King Tiger was a hoot, but it's that so much had to be destroyed to get it looking ok.🙁
I have looked all over the place for a colour scheme that looked impressive, and I found this one on tanks-encyclopedia.com/ and even though it is a Porch turret, the colour scheme made my mouth water. 🙂

All will be revealed just before I enter it in the QMHE competition in August. 🙂
Don't want to give my opponents any ideas now. hahahaha 🙂 🙂 🙂

Top job on the camouflage scheme 👍 Looking forward to your next update and its final presentation. Cheers

Thank you one and all for the interest you are all showing in this project. 👍
I am really putting the weights on myself to come up with something that I feel will be most unusual to say the least.🙂
I have a fair idea of what I want, mostly, based on one presentation I have seen and was excited by. 🙂
Forgive me for not being original, but I hope my effort will be just as good but hopefully better than what I have seen.
Cheers.
Kez. 👍

Clean build! The camo looks really cool mate.

Now I am getting a swelled head guys. 🙂 🙂 🙂
Thanks a million for your most encouraging and supportive comments guys, as I was a bit annoyed at not getting a result I was content with at first, and lost a bit of mojo for a while. 🙁
But it has come out more like I imagined it would.
Cheers.
Kezza. 🙂

Rene Scheiblich
As long as the mojo returns, all is fine. Strip, set aside and have another go obviously helps 🙂

Peter, I love the way you put your compliments😄

The ídea' you talk about Mr Peter has been around for a long time and I was just letting you know that I am wanting to emulate it. LONG before I told you and sent an image of it.

Nice camo scheme Kerry, I might copy your technique when I'm going to attempt one of my Tigers 🙂
14 April 2018, 07:25
Kerry COX
Thank you Dan. 🙂
How I ended up with the final result was to base coat the whole model the yellow strip paint, then I rolled out long thin blutac strips the width I felt was adequate for what the stripe would be, then, with the red earth and green were done with the air brush air supply down to about 7psi, just enough to get the paint out of the brush with minimal overspray, and the nozzle as close to the model as possible while spraying.
I had to practice a couple of times until I came up with a setting that gave me the best result.
The actual colour scheme I copied is here.

i believe only who post (you) or who started the tread (Kezza) can delete a post (well, webmaster too, but i doubt Tim did that)
14 April 2018, 10:15
Peter Hardy
Yeah, dunno? Bit confusing? Won't be Kezza, he understands the Aussie sense of humour and knows I am in awe of his skills. Ripper bloke too. Think maybe someone else misunderstood what I was saying! Anyhow, not the end of the world. I like what Kerry is doing with this. He bought the clear parts a month ago and what he has planned will be awesome.

Spot on Spanjaard. I am not one who 'reads between the lines'.
14 April 2018, 10:54
Spanjaard
i have no idea. i can not even read THE LINES, that comment was gone when i saw the message from Kezza answerign to it (i was wandering what he was talking about)
My message was just stating a fact, that as far as i know only you two can delete that post 🙂
or do we have any censoring around here??? 😄 😄 what did you say Peter? 😉
14 April 2018, 12:03
Dan M
Many thanks Kerry for the explanations, they're very good for a beginner like me who hasn't tried too many camo schemes
14 April 2018, 12:04
Rene Scheiblich
It's from an early King Tiger? I used it for an E75, fictional replacement for 332. Oops. 🙂

Low pressure spraying is reeeally nice. 👍
14 April 2018, 12:17
Kerry COX
Rene. The paint scheme I believe is from the panzer division that was sent to Normandy when the Allies were coming ashore, so that was 1944 and pretty late in the whole scheme of things.
But according to the Panzer encyclopedia it was first used on the Porsche turreted early production version. I am simply copying it as it looks spectacular and not necessilary 'time accurate'.
Here is what I found on the beast. As I am not well informed on the subject. 👍 no.pinterest.com/pin/479914904022114705/ and also, my good mate Rui has a whole section he has researched on German vehicles (armoured) that will blow your mind and just chocka block full of colour plates of reference material.
14 April 2018, 18:16
Kerry COX
Rene. I found Rui's page on reference material and here is the link. 🙂 👍 Cheers. ! Military Thinking MT1 | Album by mig (1:35)

I didn't question your choice mate 🙂

Rui has made some really good and informative posts yup. He helped me out with intel on my current build too🙂
14 April 2018, 19:05
Kerry COX
Rene. All is good mate, as I know you were not questioning my choice, and I am sorry if my reply 'sounded' like that.
I just wanted to show you what inspired me, and I see on your album you have a very sweet cammo scheme happening too. I love it. 🙂 👍
14 April 2018, 19:16
Rene Scheiblich
No worries. I'm just looking forward to the final result 🙂
14 April 2018, 19:46
Kerry COX
LOL. Rene. So am I mate. hahahaha🙂
I have to keep most of the images I am taking of the build off line for a while, as I have had some guy copy what I have done here in Australia and posted on SM and then enter his version of what I had posted on line in a competition. 🙁
I know I am creating my rendition of what I have all ready seen online, but it's not like I am competing with the creator of that build, but rather I am inspired by what I have seen, motivated to think I can do that too. I think. !
14 April 2018, 19:52
Kerry COX
James C , It is a blessing mate. Having first used it on a Ju-87 for desert cammo and been a fan of it ever since. It does have a tendancy to want to stay attached to your fingers as your positioning it, and wants to not stay where it is put. 🙁
Be patient with it Grasshopper. 🙂
The beauty of it is that it leaves no trace of where it's been or markings on any new paint. 🙂 👍
14 April 2018, 20:04
Rene Scheiblich
Careful there. On my Leopard BluTack did leave some dark marks, better not leave it on longer than necessary😄
14 April 2018, 20:26
Kerry COX
Rene, a good point. But when I use it. I NEVER used 'pre loved' blutac, as that can hold all kinds of nasties. true. "😉
14 April 2018, 20:28
Rene Scheiblich
I used a fresh pack as well. Maybe my fingers were super greasy, who knows. But ever since then I heed James' advice to take it off as soon the paint is dry to the touch.
14 April 2018, 20:58
Dan M
Happened to me too. Applied the putty on the tank, forgot about it, came back to it after a week, removed it and discovered it left all sorts of greasy stains on the paint. So, taking it out as soon as possible is a solid advice.

Kerry COX
All good thinking here lads. The ONLY masking material I can leave on for any great length of time is "Parrafilm 'M'". Mostly used on clear parts, but used on the track sections that are attached to the turret in this build. Great stuff with SO many applications. 👍 🙂

thanks for the link Kezza, i got some of this Parrafilm M but never got really good results. those instructions will handy
14 April 2018, 22:21
Kerry COX
Spanjaard. If you have a big roll of the Parrafilm, it will last you 10 years at least. Practice with it at every opportunity mate.
15 April 2018, 00:17
Michael Hickey
Thanks for the link Kerry, I've tried Parafilm M a couple of times with no success.
15 April 2018, 01:43
Kerry COX
Michael. It took me a hell of a long time and many lengths of Parra, much of it in the bin. But as I said, there are a mirriad of uses for it other than clear canopies and the such. My latest 40m roll only cost $40.00 from a medical supplies company here on the coast.
15 April 2018, 02:56
Michael Hickey
I bought some a while ago on ebay, pretty cheap too if I remember rightly.
15 April 2018, 03:03
Kerry COX
I took 10 years to go through my first roll, and I used it in so many ways too. A vey 'flexable' tool in many ways. 👍
15 April 2018, 03:51
Spanjaard
thanks Kerry. i will.
Mine was also sourced at ebay. somebody buying rolls and selling them by the meter I guess. 5 meters for 5£ more or less

HI Kezza,
Somehow I've missed this project. Looking great Mate. 👍
P.S. Thanks for your nice words about my MT albums
@Rene Thank you also.

Kerry COX
Spanjarrd an Rui. Good morning gents and cheers for the comments.🙂
The selling of Parrafilm by the foot was tried by Gabba Hobbies here, at $10.00 for 12". Just plain stealing. 🙁
I am looking forward to posting on line the finished product.👍
Just a few finishing touches in the next day or so and I will hold my breath as I ask if it's to your liking.
15 April 2018, 20:09
Spanjaard
stealing probably, but unless you can get complete rolls... there is not much of an option 😄 😄
15 April 2018, 22:43
Kerry COX
Now that it has been used for modelling for so long now. The demand for more than 'just a taste ' of it has made the American canning company quite a nice dollar. 🙂
16 April 2018, 00:06
Peter Hardy
Might just drop into the local Doctor and see if they can get me a roll.
16 April 2018, 02:17
Kerry COX
Peter. Here is where to get it. bacto.com.au/shop/in..amp;product_id=31203
16 April 2018, 03:27
Peter Hardy
Thanks Kezza. Stuff's not cheap is it?
16 April 2018, 04:05
Rene Scheiblich
At first yep. At 45$ it's cheaper by the m2 than the 10mm Tamiya tape😄 using my local prices as comparison 🙂
Is this stuff really that good? I know someone in a lab... 😄
16 April 2018, 04:32
Kerry COX
If you know someone in a lab, the chances are that they will have heaps, as it is also used to create air and water tight joins when assembling the glass tubing. But mostly, it is use in pathology and the agricultural fields too. And, it just lasts for ever as a roll, not breakdown of the film and stretches to 30 times the length you cut first to use. Brilliant in so many ways.
And Peter, one roll will last you a minimum of 10 years. ! Tamiya will cost you much much more than that in the long run.
16 April 2018, 04:56
Peter Hardy
Now that I don't doubt. Still might try and weasel some out of the local hospital. Maybe, just maybe they might take pity on a poor lonely old man and ...
16 April 2018, 05:46
Spanjaard
get a bit via ebay (no favours needed), and if you like it, go for the link provided by Kezza and get a roll 😉
you can resell it by pieces on ebay 😄 😄
16 April 2018, 06:08
Peter Hardy
You are a sneaky bugger aren't you!
16 April 2018, 06:29
Kerry COX
There is a length of chrome tape, and quite a substantial length of Parra here if you want it Peter. Just say the word, and..............be polite. 🙂
16 April 2018, 06:49
Rene Scheiblich
Well
38m is a LOT. Why not make some profit with half the roll🙂
16 April 2018, 07:31
Spanjaard
You can call it provide a service to those who can/will not get he roll 😄 (like me 😛)
16 April 2018, 08:10
Peter Hardy
Hang on to it for the minute thanks Kez, not sure what I have for the rest of the year. Compressor is in the garage and the new spray booth should be here for the weekend. I'll be able to finish the Red Bike then. Might do that forklift next? Or the Greek warship? I'm in Armour remission but I can feel this urge coming on!
16 April 2018, 11:31
Kerry COX
Peter. When ever your ready. 👍
16 April 2018, 11:36
Rene Scheiblich
'Ordered' a sample. 😛
But she said I needed to stretch it rather tightly or it won't hold very well... Any info on that? I don't want to break the canopy on my next build 😄
16 April 2018, 16:02
Martin Oostrom
Cheapest I could find was €32 (incl shipping) for 10mm*38m roll
16 April 2018, 16:49
Rene Scheiblich
If it's really that good for masking, I'll get me one. But first I want to test it.
Maybe I even have a few spare cm for Spanjaard then 😄
16 April 2018, 16:54
Kerry COX
The 'KEY' to getting the best results is the 'stretch'. :-O
Don't overstretch the piece you want to work with, as too thin and it is almost useless.
There are some great videos on YouTube about how to use it and how to cut a score mark on parts so that the blade will have no or very little damage done
You don't need to squeeze the guts out of it to make it stick, just a gentle amount of pressure in a 'PINCH' will be more than enough to get it to work best. Yes, try not to crush the delicate clear canopies when laying the film on the part to be painted, and use a brand new cutting blade with zero pressure when 'cutting in' around the canopy 'frame' .
And, use just enough for the job requirements. Don't over estimate how much will be required. "Less is more" with parrafilm.
