I am trying to find out just when it was released. But there are tonns (metric) of images on Google to get all the info I think I will need.

Looks like a challenging build. I'm in 👍
30 April 2017, 13:56
Kerry COX
Thank you gents. 👍.
I am pleased with the build so far, nothing major has shown up yet, but on the 'dry fitting' of the body panels, there looks to be some 'issues' there, once it needs to be bought to a conclusion. :-/
I will take heaps of images of all I do so that if anyone does build one, my work may help with what to avoid and problem solve, but I hope nothing major arises.
Cheers. 🙂 👍

Totally worth getting mate. 👍
One of the more 'challenging' kits I have tackled, but not sorry I have, as it's got my juices flowing again. hahahaha 🙂

thanks Kerry, i am trying to keep my stash where it is... although not very successfully 😛

LOL. 🙂 I have been TRYING to do that for years, but bugger me, I am just a push over for a model that has great box art. hehehehehe 👍

I,m doing well. How are you doing there "Down Under"? James had just made a comment about winter coming, had me stumped for a moment, then realized you guys are going into Winter as we go into summer. DUH. LOL.

Aw, you guys. LOL.;-/
I am trying to figure out what images to post, as my daughter took so many as I was getting her to do the images I was wanting, but, she got all carried away in the moment, so, I will post all I can and add some text on the frame for each one. :-O
bare with me folks. 👍
It's great to see my mates dropping in for a 'sticky beak' hahahaha.

Clifford, yes mate, the world is now on it's tilt trip and we will be cold, but not frozen thank God. hehehe
I do get a little too 'informative' in my posts, but I am hope you all understand. I am not trying to be a smart arse, just a help. ho ho ho. 🙂

I have had thoughts of using foil on a NMF aircraft, but am afraid that would really be a disaster. LOL.
2 May 2017, 21:02
Kerry COX
Hi James. Good to see you here mate. 🙂
The one thing I can't stress enough about this foil thing.
Is the "Compound curve" side of doing the application.
It has no 'stretch' or 'give', and as a result, the crinkle factor is hard to avoid. But with a gentle burnishing as it is being applied will go a long way in overcoming the worst of the effect.
I had ALL kinds of dramas with my Tamiya P-51 I covered with foil, especially where the wings met the fuselage, and around the wing guns.
But, as I say. Fun is the key to this stuff, as it can really test your patience. He he. 🙂
2 May 2017, 21:06
Clifford Keesler
I'll bet. LOL.
2 May 2017, 21:09
Clifford Keesler
Maybe I will try it on my X-3 it is just wings and horizontal stabs.
2 May 2017, 21:11

I don't know, I have never bought any. Kerry should know.
2 May 2017, 22:35

It mar vary from place to place, but here in Oz, I will happily pay $10.00 a sheet, but it lasts a long time, or if a big project like a 1.48 airplane with lots of bends and curves. two sheets at a time.. But here is the link, and also, there ate some good 'tutorials' on You Tube too. google.com.au/url?sa..ArQhF64uuvgwUPc4XL2A

All is GOOD mate. Glad to help if I did. 👍 🙂
2 May 2017, 23:27
Kerry COX
So far. I have tried about four /five times to 'get it right'. :-/
This is the 'thing' about bare metal foil, EVERY blemish show up like dog's balls in the moonlight. Grrrrrrrrrr
Extreme care in the 'handling' department is required, as it is not the most powerful adhesive and it lifts so easily.
But I persist. hehehehe🙂
3 May 2017, 01:44
Clifford Keesler
You can do it Mate.
3 May 2017, 01:54
Kerry COX
I am getting a bad neck from concentrating so hard mate.🙁
But I appreciate the encouragement. And I will report, I have finally got a couple of pieces I am really happy with. 🙂 🙂 🙂

Thomas Mayer
Clever approach to get the chrome trim done, Kerry! Your homemade tool to burnish the foil down into the recess is (again!) one thing I try to remember!
3 May 2017, 06:22
Roberto Rocat
Many useful tips, thanks!
3 May 2017, 06:59
Kerry COX
Thank you Thomas and Roberto. The 'burnishing tool' ha ha. is 'soft' and just what is needed to prevent the foil from taring. 👍
I have finally worked out (After a number of stuff up's) just how to get the foil to behave and do what it's meant to do.
Especially the corners where I have to "mitre" the foil by cutting the correct angle to prevent any overlap and to have it look like a proper join.
It is hard with digital cameras to get silver surfaces to look OK, as the 'glare' is hard to control without loosing close up clarity, but I will work on getting some clearer close up work so I can show you what I mean by 'mitre'. 🙂
3 May 2017, 08:13
Choppa Nutta
Kerry, put the light direction at 90 degrees to the camera direction, that should help a lot 🙂
3 May 2017, 08:27
Kerry COX
Thank you Choppa. 🙂
Would a particular coloured background help too. ?
The only lights we can buy now are the "Energy efficient" type and they give off that 'fluorescent' bright white 'glare' which I really don't like, as my images tend to look 'washed out', where as, with the older incandescent filament globes we had, they had that warm look to the images and the detail always looked better. Oh well. :-/
I may have to use a sheet of paper hung in front of the light to tone it down a bit. 👍
3 May 2017, 09:26
Choppa Nutta
Yeah Kerry, good idea with the diffuser sheet, grease proof paper used for some cooking applications, it is reasonably transparent whilst being quite good at diffusing the light.

Moving the light source off to one side is the main thing though so that the light isn't reflecting directly into the camera, rather like a snooker ball bouncing off a cushion and into the pocket (camera) Moving the camera position or piece to fine tune the angles of reflection also helps to find the sweet spot.

As for background colour, unless you have a fancy camera I would avoid black or white as they do funny things with contrast and glare, red is also a no no as it is the most difficult colour to resolve etc. especially bright vivid reds.

Mid tones are the easiest I've found, warm mid grassy greens & sky blues that aren't too vivid a hue are my favorites as one or the other will contrast well with most models and they don't push the sensitivity range too hard on cameras.

Controlling the reflected light also helps too, ie. imagine our stage is a box on the table, on the bottom of the box we have our piece on a sheet of green back ground (on the table), the camera is on the front of the box pointing at the piece, the light is on one side of the box, let's say on the left, leaving 3 sides spare, back, top and right...

On the back we have a sheet of flat black, and on the top too, as much as possible anyway 🙂
On the right hand side of this imaginary box we can use a light coloured sheet (or even tin foil) to reflect light back onto the piece, this is very handy for controlling how dark the shadows are which helps with contrast issues and general image fine tuning.

Another use is for simulating outdoor daylight shots by using a light sky blue reflection sheet which changes the colour of the shadows like the real sky does 🙂

The key thing is experimentation though, cameras vary widely but these broad considerations should help, I hope 😄 🙂

Choppa. Brilliant. !!!! 🙂 🙂 🙂
Mate. After reading your suggestions and tips, I went back to the bench and would you believe, the back of my mobile phone somehow got in on the experiment. :-/
I had placed the parts I am really happy with on the phone while setting up the cooking grease proof paper over the light, and I then looked at the pieces after the set up through the view finder and I was in heaven, as all the pieces looked the best on the dark blue of the phone case and so I snapped a couple of frames and this is the result.

Cool, glad it helped 🙂
Next time you're in an artshop get one of those drawing pads with different coloured sheets😉
3 May 2017, 11:57
Kerry COX
I have thought of doing that, as the camera I have now is really top notch for what it is , but at $800.00 I'm expecting better results. 👍

Choppa Nutta
.... Your welcome Burkhard 🙂

I'm no expert of course but I have found that getting good positions for the light and camera relative to the subject/model is more than half the battle, everything else is fine tuning it seems to me, that said the fine tuning is what takes a good photo and makes it an excellent photo 😄 😄 😄

Anyhow, here's the next installment of Paul Budzik's photography series, enjoy 🙂

Improvement is never earned with sentiments of complacency😉 😄
all the best practitioners of anything have always had that feeling of there's always more to learn 🙂
13 May 2017, 16:32
Kerry COX
Well said Choppa. Very true words indeed mate. 👍
Every time I open a kit, no matter if I have done it a number of times, there is always a new approach to be had. 😉
13 May 2017, 18:19
Kerry COX
James, Thank you for your compliments and comments mate. 👍
I use Accetone to clean up after I have used all kinds of paints.
I also use it to thin down Tamiya enamels, and it helps the paint dry rapidly as it evaporates rather quickly.
I will be using the Bare metal foil on all the trim on the outside of the car, and in the Image I posted as part of the build, you will see I am in for one hell of a job. :-/
13 May 2017, 21:28
Kerry COX
Thanks again James. Now I blush. LOL 🙂
I have grown in confidence with the foil and the Alclad, and both terrified me before I started experimenting with them, but the foil can be so much fun, just as long as you don't take it too seriously. :-/
The beauty of the foil is that if you make a mistake, it comes off so easily, and no damage done. 🙂

13 May 2017, 22:20
Kerry COX
Well if I had used the chromed parts that came with the kit in the form they came in, I would have made a huge mistake.🙁
I removed the 'chrome' from the radiator/grill and was pleased to see some great detail that was obscured by the kit chrome, which BTW is thick, almost like hand painted and never thinned out, and completely smothered the detail underneath which I have discovered, is extraordinary.
So it will be Alclad chrome for ALL the chrome parts.

what a beast! The windows 👍 👍 I'm looking for the engine! 🙂
19 May 2017, 07:54

Ah, YES. The engine. 🙂
Jonns, Good to see you and thanks for dropping in mate. 🙂
I have detailed the engine with the fuel injection attachments and I am looking to create the shaft that protrudes from the injector distributor. I will post some images as it gets closer to the installation of the motor.
I am glad you liked the widows mate. 🙂 👍

wow, this is going to be a certainly beautiful car....
19 May 2017, 11:19

Spanjaard, Thank you my friend. 🙂
I am certainly enjoying the challenge for sure. 🙂
Detailing engine bays really does make car models a little more interesting to the viewers at the shows I have been to, with much pointing of fingers and the oh's and ar's sound good. 🙂

Thank Rob. I am wondering, in reality, what It will look like at the end, as there is a LOT of handling and more to come. Lots of gloves. hehehehe L0L
27 June 2017, 07:29
Robert W Martel
Yea, I noticed the cotton gloves, I need some of those! Also hadn't noticed it is 24th scale, so it's pretty good size, most military stuff like that is 35th. Looks like a nice kit.
27 June 2017, 17:20
Kerry COX
Hi Rob. The kit is Russian. !!
I am really surprised as to just how much stuff for scale modelling is coming out of Russia, AND, the Ukraine, (Mini-Art). :-O
The detail is astounding, but then again, they will have kept up with all the latest industrial espionage. !!
The glove are so helpful, polishing as you go and no finger prints. LOL :-0
I am just now, at the stage of getting the floor pan and seats in, and not all that easy so I have found. 🙁
But, I plug away at it. 🙂 👍

Album info

This is the three axle off road passenger car G4 (W31) designed and built by Daimler-Benz in 1934. A huge, in line, 8 cylinder engine pumping out 100 hp that went to 110 for the 35 production unit.
A six seat arrangement that many of the high ranking officers of the German high command used to move about the cities and operational theatres at the front.
