A bit of progress on my latest.

Peter - I am building this kit at this very moment and really struggled with those walkways around the funnels - I got so frustrated I ripped the ones off I had done and decided to omit them from all the funnels - would love to know how you got them so perfect. I just couldn't find a way of picking up holding placing and gluing so they all lined up nicely - the ones I did looked terrible - yours look great. I was OK with the grilles on the tops of the funnels - but couldn't work out how to get a good curve like you have - I just slowly bent them into shape

Thanks!
I lined them up one at a time, without glue, using the molded railing as a guide and using gravity to let them hang right. Then I nudged some thin CA underneath by using a scalpel blade.
Still quite tricky and I had to take off and redo some several times.
I cheated a bit towards the end and attached one end of the photoetch only at first, if it attached 'good enough' but not straight, I bent it until straight. A bit like point welding. After I was happy with it, I ran glue along the whole length by letting the capillary action suck it up from the edge of a curved scalpel blade.
A fair bit of cleanup of CA on the plastic afterwards, but after winning the battle against the PE, I didn't mind! :-D

I spotted this kit recently at the hobby shop after reading the news of the finding of the Akagi. Saw some nice PE for the available Akagi kits that looked really nice, but very complicated, so I thought I'd practice on this little one first. Good weekend project, right? Four weeks later, still not done. 😉

For the curve on the grilles, I turned them upside down and used the top of the funnel as a press. They are actually concavely curved on top.

Thanks Peter - I did go with the spot weld option and the gravity and using the mold as a guide but they kept going out of position - you obviously have more patience then me - interesting tips with the scalpel blade will have to give it a go.

Finished the railings on the aft superstructure and glued the aft superstructure on. Enough for today! 🙂

Thanks guys.
Attached a _very small_ chrysanthemum to the bow.
About 1mm diameter. Tiniest part of the kit..

Just found out, Tenryu had canvas cover for the bridge only before the refit
(model covers both versions, but all other fittings I used as per after the refit, -more AA guns, shorter mast, etc)
Bridge was covered as part of the refit.. Oh well, repaint time.
Pity, I liked the canvas...

Nice little gem... That rigging is something that holes me back to start such a build

Thanks!
Rigging is Ezline. Not hard to use, potentially sensitive to UV though.
I just returned to my WnW FE2b cockpit that had been sitting on my desk in direct morning sun with unpainted Ezline for months.
The rigging had all but disintegrated.
Not dry crumbling, rather getting goey, like rubber reversion...
