Im in.One of the best looking planes of ww2.
2. August, 16:37
Welcome to the madness of AIMS
@ David, if AIMS were not so exhausting, I would very much want to do the Ju 388 L, but after experiencing the Ju 188 I need a HOLIDAY
2. August, 17:53
Thomas Bischoff
Don't frighten me - I have the Do 217 N-2 conversion set ...
Looking at the fotos I think you managed well However
2. August, 18:02

Sorry Thomas, no fright, it is doable and your experience will be fun, but for the money you expect better quality, all rivets and panels have to be made new, many sprues go into the actual model, the overview between AIMS parts and Revell's origins remain very subtle, I think John McIllmurray concentrated so much on the B stand on the Ju 188 that some of the details simply fell under the table

I got this kit for the Centennial+50 (I was born in Canada back when the Red Ensign flag flew). I have not yet got the nerve up to build it. Only got as far as admiring the sprues and decals. I see you have taken on the one thing that holds me back and that is to remove the seem on the canopy. I actually ordered another clear sprue from Kinetic via Lucky Models in case I F' it up. Also thinking of getting a 2nd set of decals also just to be safe. I have been watching your build. Cheers.
3. July, 21:57
Thanks Robbi, my suggestion for the canopy, get yourself an Eduard MiG 21 (there were also in Canada). Eduard always has 3 versions of canopy that you don't need, you can practice on them ;) because of the decals I have don't worry, Leading Edge offers a very good replacement, or I simply use other Canadian markings, also from Leading Edge, because the Canadian special markings are simply the most interesting ones that can be found on the CF 188 / F18

I don't worry about decals and canopy, I have been looking for the perfect red for a long time and hope to have found it

9. July, 03:46
I think you indeed found a spot on red, very nice progress!
13. July, 22:38
Jos Jansen
Man Jens, missed this totally...very wel done so far, respect for the red paint very nice and tight!
16. July, 05:23
Thank you colleagues and welcome on board :) After a long search I got a relatively inexpensive care, a plus for the canopy but also training money when it comes to the clear coat, I destroyed with some decals through the paint, only the simple orange maple and easily replaced by a Model Master Orange and some Tamiya tape, but still tuition in terms of paint :( the hull quickly had its color without much worry, the small parts and rudders are like dust catchers and so is the vertical tail before the decals bathed in Dowanol a good 15 times and freshly varnished ...., but slowly it comes to the larger decals and the alignment is again something that requires more than just calm and patience :)
17. July, 16:00

quite some decals to do

19. July, 19:34
nice progress indeed, very eye catching

arne vd burg
Already looking very nice. How is the overall fit of the icm kit?
3. June, 19:54
Hello Arne, the fit of the parts to each other is very good but when assembling the cockpit and engine section you should adjust the lower part without covering the sides. Connection from A14 to F11 and cockpit, with parts C 5,6,7,8 and C 23, 24 you have to fill small gaps
3. June, 21:56
Megan Harris
Awesome! How do you achieve the realistic metal effect on the rear end? The heat stains and different shades?
3. June, 22:35
Hello Harris, the metal colors are with Gunze
Mr.Metal Color and Alclad Metal lacquered as base colors, so there are color differences in iron and aluminum, the "burns" are additionally "lacquered" with Alclad tempering colors e.g. with this hot metal sepia

24. May, 01:09
Thanks Thomas :) yes, the Academy CH 46 is quite easy to build, but I also like to look at original pictures, the construction plan is a bit incomprehensible and the position of the parts or the necessary holes are not always clear, we are probably too as model builders very spoiled ;)
24. May, 06:33
Thomas Bischoff
looks like you built too many Tamiyas ... lol :)
24. May, 18:23

15. May, 08:45
What kind of varnish is there on the metallic paint, if any? :)
16. May, 12:16
Hello Treehugger There is no extra paint on the finish, only the mixture or layers between Alclad and Gunze Mr. Metal, the dark tones are with steel paint from Mr. Metal, the rivets are washed again with black from the school paint box
16. May, 13:00
It looks dirty, but somehow it looks like metal and I like it.
16. May, 15:06
Thanks Treehugger, it was my intention to make it look old and out of order, Su 9 on duty were a bit more neat and if I like it, I'm also happy with the new technology to create patina :)
16. May, 15:30
I agree with Treehugger: appealing finish.

Slavo Hazucha
Top job Jens! Yet I am clueless - do you work in some time-warping-capsule or how did you manage to go from "some work on the instruments panel" to "finished model" that quickly...? And what a finish, it really is a looker

Were the GWH decals a topic, or did I raise false alarms? Would like to know, there is a GWH kit on my ToDo list... ;)
30. September 2019, 18:54
Thanks for the compliments :) It is happy and motivated for the next model: -) @ Slavo, I do not have a time capsule, but once I'm sitting then I stick with it. The GWK kit has a very simple blueprint and you have to check many things 3 and 4 times if the position is right, the fit can convince, but I also have a lot to replace with Eduard, the seat of brass is of course a great for themselves. The decals are relatively thick and not 100% faithful to the scheme, but this is in the digital pattern, the Gunze Gunze Mr. Color C 305 FS 36118 is ideal for mending and color accuracy, otherwise Micro Sol creates the bad corners on the model
30. September 2019, 19:45
Very nice work on this, the base is great as well! I hope the slovaks paint their new vipers the same way :)

Wow nice Mig Jens.I got the same kit in my stash, hope it will turn out as good as yours .
Did u use the decals or a paint mask for the didital camo?
16. May, 10:05
Hello Arne :) Thanks for the compliment, and I firmly believe that your MiG 29 AS will be much finer than I could ever show ;) The digital samples are all decals from the GWH kit, with a little Micro Sol that was quickly done :)

A small box with very tightly cast parts in short run quality of the better kind.
The construction plan is confusing, the parts with a lot of burr and without any information about the colors of the details, but everything fits together well :)
4. May, 20:30
Thomas Bischoff
Comes along nicely
9. May, 16:26
Hello Thomas, there are certainly better kits, especially as far as the construction instructions are concerned, the fit is quite good for a short run model, the PE parts also bring some life into the cockpit, but some things have to be considered for a long time until the construction makes sense

Alexander Perov
Well then why didn't I write my email
28. April, 07:55
Flap to monkey dead, okay, the IL 28 has a lot of window space, all the entrances remain open, so the inner life is meaningfully upgraded with PE particles, unfortunately, the further fit shows the bad fit of the parts, you should in All construction stages dry fit in advance, not only the parts in the step of the assembly instructions, check 5 steps in advance what fits and where it should end up in the end, the grinding itself is nothing big, but the maintenance flaps and rows of rivets have to be re-engraved , otherwise the hull remains pretty naked and under the metal finish that would be almost a death sentence for the model itself .......
29. April, 17:41
I put my IL 28 aside for the time being, it is enough for me at the moment with sandpaper, the sink points described in the reports at the direct connection points on the wings I still gritted my teeth, but, with the first layer of aluminum polish, there were sink points along the entire length of the wings to show up, top / round connections, that robbed me of all my lust at the moment ....
2. May, 13:31
Looks like I might have to attempt the Hpm one after all :(
2. May, 15:03
ohhh yes Augie that would be an investment that you would certainly regret less frightening, even if HpH is not free of errors, but still freed from the many hours of grinding dust, even if it is a resin model ...
2. May, 15:39
Nathan Dempsey
I plan on doing mine in Nigerian markings and camouflage. Hopefully that will hide all the putty needed.
2. May, 16:36
Hello Nathan, it will be easier but it will not be possible without a spatula, some reworking is required on the vertical tail to the fuselage, the surfaces should be adjusted dry, it is simply not Tamiya and unfortunately with such modern new shapes it is also very much manufactured without expertise (mold making)
2. May, 19:28

I have the Hpm already.. its enough to scare me.. but I have powertools now so maybe not so bad,

Thanks Daniel :) yes the size is a real problem, but the model is also really fun to build, just a change from the usual one and the BiG Ed Set also gives you 1000 new options but Zvezda has delivered the 48 Hind , Decals or masks for the tiger pattern are available ;)

9. April, 09:36

Just please tell us it's a pre-cut masking set... ;)

Looking great & sharp in the tiger pattern
10. April, 21:59
Hello Slavo, unfortunately I have to disappoint you, the masks from DN are made on Venyl like the first attempts at Eduard :( the masks themselves are only a 2 D cutting copy of a photo without considering the radii or openings, the adhesive force is right strong so there is a lot of reworking in the paint itself :( For you as a professional model maker, it is certainly a help, for beginners it is probably horror to work with :(

@Treehugger it is probably only the Intruder which is made so extremely bad, which is built also very rare to see, everything else as Sea Harrier or Mirage and F 18 have a much better resonanc with the model makers

@ Thomas, the exchange is absolutely worth it, but the chassis everything in the shade before, the accessories in the professional kit makes the decision again easier :) What I noticed at Eduard but, reissue of the MiG 21, the Tempest reprints and the Bf 109 G10 are probably made of other material than before, the sonond very sharp panels and rivets are slightly washed out as if the forms were already 100 years old :(

So idea, paint and Che gewara are made with airbrush, the seat is refined with Eduard belts, mirrors and other small parts come in a mix of Eduard and GWH PE accessories
Colors Mr. Color for the Tranfarben, for engines only Alclad II colors
And so Cuba has a Castro Digitales

Hello Rui, thanks for the compliment :) and do not worry, the Revell Kit is very nice to build, even with the BiG set from Eduard there are no big problems, which of course must be followed, it takes space, right Space as in the construction of battleships in the scale 1: 100 :) :)

Awesome camo scheme. Nicely done. I love the detail in the cockpit.

Thank you Jim for the flattering words, the cockpit is from Eduard, but the kit is also very nicely done and has individual decals for the ads, the ads themselves are covered with a drop of Gunze GX that is out of the jar like syrup and absolutely perfect for that to handle is
