You will have plenty of time to participate in contests. Is the judging done by a group of judges? If it is, you really need people who are familiar with the type of model they are judging. At IPMS judged contests, the judges are usually military modelers. They don't necessarily know car models and what is accurate for the subject being judged. When I entered the Snakeskin Viper, I heard the one judge asking another judge how it was done. The "expert" told him that it was a decal. I had an information sheet with the car that listed the steps I took to achieve the paint finish. I confronted the "expert" and he told me to walk away or he would have me disqualified. Be careful of "experts". Most of them can't read.

Its all good Lawrence I go to this to sale a few kits and buy kits I like
And to just look at other people's builds
In time I my take a build there to show of
But I think I still have some learning to do
In my time here on scalemates I have learnt lots
Made many friends
After all I think most important that I am happy whed what I have built
Inspite of all my flops I am still happy whed what I have built
Because from my first one to my last one I can see an improvement
For some of you guys that have done this for a lifetime
You have all the tools and knowledge
I got my first kit 2 and a half years ago and
Had no pait or tool at that time
The biggest problem sure was having next to no experience
I think the only kits I built as a child was less then a handful
Given to me by my mom
Whed no paints and no tools
So really no experience
It sure is a privilege to see what others are building here and learning from

I am still learning as I go. Terry is my mentor on much of what I do. Last night I actually had a chance to offer some guidance on one of his projects. That was great. We all need to cultivate relationships with people who do what we are interested in. We all can help each other out from time to time. There are good builders, who will help you achieve your goals.

The other type of contest judging we have here is "peoples choice", which everyone attending is given a ballot to vote on their favorites. This kind of contest forces you to try to make your display appeal to the people walking past.

Life is all about the relationships we cultivate. That's what makes it all worthwhile. Jesus tried to teach us that, with the relationship we can have with Him.
