You're right the north star PE Parts are extremly tiny and super thin. But the size of the whole model is that small that I'd need only 3 weekend to finish it. Now I have to start painting. The water surface is challenging, because I'm experimenting with different techniques on water surfaces. Last time(with my Varyag) I'tried Silicon with big sucsess. This time I'used acrylic plaster on Styropor.

Is this a kit from north star models or are only the pe? It looks absolute beautiful to me! I can say, i fell in love with the first sight!

Kann es sein das dass Grundmodell von Mirage Hobby ist?

Thats right,Lode.
In my opinion one of the difficult things to do(realistic water surface )

Ok, yes it's a mirage hobby kit with PE Parts von North Star. Without the PE Parts it's much to simple and not really detailed.

Lode.Watersurfaces are not that tricky. On my Varyag dio I used styropor as basement, paint it arund the hull in light cyan. the rest in dark blue and shades of blue up to black. Then apply normal silicone and modelling it with a spoon and for the top of the waves with a stick. Let it dry and drywash th waves.Fill The gap between the hull and the water also with silikon. The good thing I put in the dhip after I'm satisfied with the water. So there is no dange to ruin your ship. In filling the gap you can't do much wrong.
This time I used acrylic plaster, and I'm a little bit nervous about the result....But the worst thing wich can happen is that I have to build up a new basement, because I put in the hull not before everything is to my full satisfaction. Be brave!

I'm pretty sure it isn't that simple 😎

Not Bad Martin. I think this is a good method for small scales like 1:700. I'm not shure if you can creat bigger waves or a rough sea.But in the end this is also acrylic gel. Thanks

You call it "quick and dirty"?! Seriously?! I am fascinated with the water and waves. What materials do you use for water?

Norbert Steffens
AMir: I'did use Acrylic gel from artist store. It's not clear! So I'm not shure if i can create a "depth" effect.

Lode: Some additional remarks. At an early stage of the build i wrap the hull(without PE Parts applied) in a clear plastic wrap. The it is really easy to create the water surface. Let it dry and after remove the hull. The wrap sticks to the acrylic gel or the silicone, but you can remove it quite easily.

OK. I don't have had the time to upload my littel project after finishing, and then forogt it....... Now some pics of the finished model. My first time to show a ship in heavy sea. Never did sea spray before.

I finished this model end of last year. Maybe you find the mistake i made. I have been concentrating on the sea scape and the spray that much so I forget someting....maybe you find it. Cheers

A couple of guesses. There's little to none bowwave.
Also, the flag at the formast shows a wind from the portside. The flags at the aft mast indicate wind from the rear.

She does look gorgeous!

I guess this is what you would call a "wet" ship (or Boat).

Thanks Dave. QMartin: No and No. I'll tell you. On the real ship there was a big white 86 on the bow...I forgot this completley. And now with all the spray an water on the hull it's impossible to attach it. 🙁(

And I was feeling smart 🙁
But I second Lode's opinion 👍

I always wondered how the ship guys created these water effects?
Well thanks for filling me in this topic!! I'm sure your explanation makes it seem easier than it really is.

Looking at a model of ship like that, makes me want to build one myself - congratulations!

Nice little project Norbert! Love the base too. Excellent work with the pe too. I've never been to sea but I reckon it would look pretty much as you depicted. Congratulations, brought a smile to my face when I found it.
