Nice start, I will follow this! Do you plan to build the bird in the markings shown on the boxart?
24 August 2013, 08:52
Mike McCabe
Similar, but there is a nice scheme with a white band around the fuselage which I will use.

Next step is detailing the cockpit using masking tape and plastic card

Fantastic job with the cockpit. Can't wait to see it painted!

Now added new exhausts, I primed the model before adding some ribbing to the rudder and aelerons as I was intending to use tape to make the detail but it wouldn't stick properly to the rather shiny plastic.

Looking good so far! Got Revells Chinook in scale 1/144 yesterday. It is the one with US markings, but I think I will build a British one! Cheers, Christian

I don't have any helicopters but would like to pick up the Revell Mi-24. After the Lagg I think I need an easy 144 project!

More progress as time has allowed, added undercarriage with wheels taken from the Eduard Spitfire the rest scratchbuilt, guns from brass tube, decals and given a gloss coat. Next will be adding panel lines from pencil, I don't think in this scale they really need to be engraved. Then comes the hard part in 144, the canopy

Looks great Mike. Just looking forward to the hard part😢

Wonderful. What greens did you use?

Jan - I made a mix until I got something near the shade, sorry nothing off the shelf

After a delay, started work on the canopy with the windshield added, made from the heat and smash method

Mike McCabe
Forgot to say, I added some panel lines done in pencil before flat coating, still some weathering to come

Can you explain about "Heat and Smash"?

Christian asked the same thing, this is a good description of the way I go about it, I tend to make a few of them to allow for errors in cutting out. You can usually find some clear plastic packaging to use for the canopy. There seem to be different ways of making the mould but usually it is easier to use the old kit part. uamf.org.uk/viewtopic.php?t=4381

Not bad, but there are some Things that I would change:
The Trimm weight at the Rudder, the Antenna mast.
And I would sand the Machinegun covering down a bit.
But beside that: Awesome work.

Thanx for the link Mike!

You can of course use this method to make very small parts such as the canopy and turrets on my 350 Sunderland finewaterline.com/pa..and/mmsunderland.htm

Thank you Mike!

After a long delay the little LaGG is finished. I didn't do much weathering, just a little streaking on the underside which is now mostly invisible, then a mist coat of light grey to soften the colours and tie the colours together. Given the start point I was pleased with how it turned out.

Not sure why but the newest photos aren't showing up first so you will need to go the end of the album to see the finished model

Not bad but ther eare some things that I think are not so good.
The hoods of the Machine guns are a bit too large, the radio mast is a bit to thick, like the weight at the rudder. Otherwise, nice job.

You do realise this is 144 and about 5cm long?????
2 February 2014, 20:47
Duncan Cook
Yes I do, but you are building 1:700 ships which look absolutlely amazing.
You could use some PE scrap for the weight as an example.
But that's just my opinion.

Mike McCabe
Well Duncan, always happy to take constructive criticism, I assume you will be too.

Hit me like a showel as I realised it: these are macro pictures, not how it would look in my eyes.
Sorry, I forgot that.

Perfect model! I kept it simple and didn't made a cockpit, bet it still is really good tho. Your model gave me more inspiration to finish mine.

Geeee 🙂 it's so cute! Great work! I like high detailing in the cockpit, accurate assembly. Paint work is good as well. And coin means cents, not Euros 🙂

I must agree about the cockpit, had to do the same thing with my Zvezdas Hurricane, boy, that was hard to get all that stuff in.

Can imagine, Edgars. But I can rent you my 72-scale bugs, and you can upgrade them to 144-scale with modelling manna 🙂
2 June 2014, 19:32
Edgars Bizūns
😄 I sure can
