Are non-Martin's allowed to comment?
I really like the Airacobra, and yours is very nice Gary.
Sgt. Nadgudunov certainly deserved is award, and I'm sure that the Nazis appreciated being shot down buy him all the more, because he hadn't shown up in a skanky plane.

Yes gorby, I'm always glad to hear from you sir! I appreciate your comments a lot, many thanks for the support. Yes, you are correct about Sgt. Nadgudunov's efforts. They were appreciated by both sides! Who needs a leaky, banged-up old crate on their six?!?! 🙂

I always thought it was a nice kit. Wish Revell would up-date and re-release a lot of the old Monogram kits, especially the 1/48 F-89 Scorpion.

You're right, many of their old kits would be outstanding with some updating. That Scorpion is in my stash in it's current state; I'd love to see a "modern" version. And, the old Monogram P-40B may still be the most accurately shaped War Hawk in 1/48 scale.

I just did a Monogram P-40B not to long ago, used the PE set for the Acadmey P-40 and re-scribed the raised panel lines. Did it in LT. George Welch's markings from Pearl Harbor.

I'd love to see it Clifford. Could you please post some pics here on Scalemates?
Here's a look at my Monogram P-40, built probably nearly 25 years ago now:

Ah, so it is. It looks fine Clifford. Looks like those Monogram seams gave ya a hard time tho'.😉.
I haven't done much re-scribing of panel lines. Man, I'd rather poke my eye with a hot needle than re-scribe an entire model. 🙂. Kudos to you Clifford. 👍

I have gotten to where I re-scribe almost all of the Revell/Monogram kits now, each one gets a little better. I buy a lot of them, the wife has a fit when I tell her I want to spend 50-90 dollars on a kit. Every once in a while I can talk her into 30.00-40.00. Although she did buy me the 1/32 Itareli F-104G. LOL.

All my built planes and all the stash are 1/48. I guess that's evidence of my extreme OCD 🙂 It would bother me if they weren't all the same scale when displayed. I know...OCD at work!! 😉
I have so many kits left to build, but still I buy more. A ninety dollar kit would buy me a nice MiG-25/31 wouldn't it?

Album info

This is an older build that I finally got around to photographing a couple years ago. I took it and several other models (see the Bell AH-1S Cobra) to another small-town airport, the Coffield Regional Airport in Rockdale, Texas, about 20 miles away. The airport used to belong to a local millionaire and he had lot’s of cool WWII planes out there, including B-25s and C-47s. I thought the old hangar had a cool, “classic” look to it and used it for a background.

The model’s first release date, according to the instructions, was 1969, then 1983 and ’89. It must’ve really been somewhat “state of the art” in 1969 with lot’s of cool detail and features. I added a little bit of wiring/tubing and tried my hand at dirtying up the landing gear and belly. It is done in Soviet Air Force markings and colors and represents one of over 4,000 Airacobras turned over to the Russians on Lean-Lease terms during World War II.

As to comments that it might be just too clean for the Russian Front, there’s this:

“Too clean?
