Bofors Anti-aircraft Gun - Construction

Started with the Bofors. Found first mistake in the instructions. Other than shown in the instructions part C18 must be turned 90 degrees to fit correctly.

I am adding the wiring to the breaks of the rear axle. A bit fiddly (for me), but it's fun.

Really nice. Painting is great and in fine detail. Especially like the plate attached to the gun in the last picture. That must be measured in millimetres, but looks like it is painted and highlighted! Keep going - looking forward to more! 🙂 👍

Kannst locker bleiben, Mike!😉
Thanks, Steve! Appreciate your comment!
Alan, I would be glad, if I could such things, but I have to admit, that the square plate on the right side of the gun is an etching part, which came with the kit. Anything else on the gun itself is painted.

John Van Kooten
This is looking very good, Frank! Bravo! 👍

How are you liking this Bofors kit so far? Any issues with it, apart from the mistake in the instructions you mentioned earlier? It looks like a really nice kit.

Frank Krause
Hi John!

Thank you!

So far a really nice kit with plenty of details. Compared to fotos of the originals, AFV-Club did a real good job. I'm having fun.

John Van Kooten
That's great to hear! AFV has come a very long way and in my opinion they make some of the best artillery / AA pieces out there. So this is one for the wishlist then 🙂

What color green did you use for this? And what brand of paint? Or is it your own mix? It looks very good and perfect for a piece of WWII British equipment.

Having fun is where it's at! 👍 🙂 I'll be watching this with great interest!

Yepp, John, AFV kits improved very good. I still do not understand, why they have so many mistakes in their instructions sometimes. The FlaK 28 instructions were terrible. At least they immediately issued correction sheets, after I (and surely some others, too) informed them.

Sorry, I haven't updated the project with the colours yet. I use Humbrol no. 117 for the green. The colour itself is already very close, and when painting a coat of satin varnish, it comes even closer to original fotos.

Great job Frank 👍

John Van Kooten
Yeah, they should definitely improve the instructions or at least do some more thorough proof-reading before releasing a kit. But good to hear they at least act quick once a problem is discovered, so that is to be admired 👍

Humbrol 117 it is then! Awesome! Thanks for the intel, Frank! Much appreciated 👍

Frank Krause
Thanks, Philip!
@John: Forgot to mention - I always use enamel paints. So Humbrol green 117 and Humbrol 135 satin varnish. I think the acrylics should have same numbers and look same like the enamels...
16 July 2014, 09:40
John Van Kooten
Thanks Frank! That's good to know! I will check out the acrylics version but I might also just stick with the enamels. Both are fine with me. The color is the important thing😉 it looks beautiful and, like you said, very accurate 🙂

Pics 14-16 added.

The parts of the gun are together now. So I started with the frame for the platform. All foot rests had holes at the bottom, to prevent water from accumulating. Also the bars holding the foot rests were actually tubes. 0.3mm and 0.8mm drills solved the problem.

All pictures of Bofors guns with shortened right foot rest of the left gunner showed a firing pedal, which was missing. I added it using aluminium foil and evergreen profile. It looks pretty rough, but I like it more than without.

Thank you, Lady and Gents! Glad, you like, what you see.
@Christian: Compared to your models in a much smaller scale I am just an amateur. I admire your skills!
@John: That's the curse of original fotos. AFV Club provides really nice details, but...😉
21 July 2014, 16:21
John Van Kooten
Hahaha! Yes, that's very true 😉 always some room for improvement, right? 😄

I think it's awesome that you are able to do that. I would probably make a big mess of it😉
