A new year, a new challenge: I just have started with Airfix venerable- but beautiful- Haker Fury I!

First step in this model-making journey through time: filling in a few road potholes!

The Airfix cockpit is more or less - rather more - completely empty. I remembered that I have an Italeri kit of a Sea Hurricane, which I will no longer build anyway after some unfortunate experiences with the Italeri basic kit. After checking a few sources, the two fuselage designs were not dissimilar in terms of the gridwork of the fuselage superstructure and the covered/planked parts. Long story short: I will adapt and use the Hurricane cockpit parts for the Fury.

The Hurricane parts are adapted and installed, also for the not so attractive kit version of the exhaust system a solution was found - at least I hope so!

The sanding work on the Fury should not be underestimated - but the danger is not great when you see the kit parts 🙂 The next step is to prime with glossy black, which will reveal imperfections that will then require filling and sanding again. In the meantime, most of the openings for the tension wires/turnbuckles have been drilled.

After applying glossy black as a primer, I saw that the surface remained cloudy and dull. This may have been due to scratches that still exist from sanding back the raised rib structures of the covered areas. So I sanded everything down again and "polished" it a little finer; now the result should at least look better!

....and now with decals on! 🙂

The essential rigging on the wings has been carried out once. Now comes the tricky part of sanding the top and bottom of the wings, painting them -and applying the decals! 🙂

The surfaces have been sanded, before they were touched up where necessary. But there was not much to do. Today I will restore the "aluminium", then the decals will be applied soon.

The following pictures conclude the construction report of the Hawker Fury I. The venerable Airfix kit has awakened a lot of memories - and posed some challenges.
All rudder linkages were improvised with etched parts, a lot of holes for tension wires were drilled and the pitot tube on the left N-strut was done with etched parts.
All in all, it was an exciting and experiential build that gives me a little more confidence in biplanes and rigging.

Very clean and fun to look at. Great job with rigging. Did you use these?:

Thank you both mates!
No Gaspatch products used here- and no turnbuckles either. I used R&B Production "aerodynamic rigging wire"/ RAF late. The black covers between the wing and struts were improvised with black decals.

Excellent job once more - proving that less is sometimes more - the very light weathering and panel/river highlighting add a lot of realism 👍

Thank you Slavo, I'm glad to hear that!
Due to the excessive use of AC glue (and the associated activator spray), the gloss level of the front metal parts has been somewhat reduced - but all in all, I am quite satisfied with the result.
