Thank you guys! Oh yes, I am fond of this rare birds!
Christian, filling and sanding has already begun. 🙂
Here you can see the kits version of the Bristol Perseus XII engine in resin. I will have to reshape it because it wan´t fit into the kits engine cowling- no way!

That´s nice, you are very welcome!
You see me build the Roc? Nice and inspiring idea...but not already on the workbench.

The Skua´s assembly has to be thought well over; you should not follow the instructions in all points!
Attachment of the wings is such a matter: they consist of five parts, the outer wing should be glued to the inner part along the curve, where the wing folds. It´s very unlikely that this would result in a stable connection.
Therefore I cemented flat sized spare parts joining the undersides of the outer and the inner wing regions.
Besides that, the dimensions of the resin- wheel wells is slightly too high to allow the wings upperside to be fixed; so they had to be cut down...
Generally said, that kit proves to very short run- but fun...🙂

Id doesn´t look like plenty of building progress, but the Skua is almost ready for painting now...
Sanding and filling was serious- the visible gaps are already filled with Cyanacrylat-
Now I am keen to get some colours on it!

Oh, did I mention that the prop has been broken? No wonder-looking at the location half outside of the sprue!
The canopy had to be elongated with some plastic, before it did not reach the fuselage when posed in the open position.

Is that some kind of microfiller you have painted on the wing roots?
28 June 2015, 20:40
Roland Sachsenhofer
No, just dry brushed Acrylic to check if the transparent glue would properly seal the gap between upper and lower wing half.
Wings- housing resin wheel wells being too thick- and the fuselage halfs had to be forced together by Cyanacrylat: fit is not the best on the Skua!

Some new pictures of my Skua: painting the underside of the right wing in white, I have taken this colour to highlight the panels of the upper side. Together with the preshading in black this should lead to an "animated" appearance of the surfaces. Next will follow the "Mixed Gray" of the two-tone upper side.

i'm quite curious on how your two tone preshade will look like, great idea btw, will have to try this one as well some day......
Looking great so far Roland !

Thank you Hanno- let´s have a try!

Thank you Guido!
According to SH I have mixed the "Dark Slate Gray"; I am eager to "clean up" with the final colour "Sky Gray".

Some steps further all surface colours have been applied. The surfaces are still too clean and immaculate: the next days will see some serious "wear and tear" painted on the Skua.

Besides the landing lights and entry step the Skua is finsihed... Yeah! I am quite happy having finshed this beast of a kit!
The Blackburn Roc will have to wait for a while... I am not ready yet for another round of that effort 🙂

What an excellent result Roland ! You made this rather weird looking crow look beautyful.
I think your special shading technique really paid off !

Beide Daumen hoch!
